If not minding travel to Lancashire, have a look at Darwen Brass, they were looking for a flugel player, might still be. They are currently second section and pushing for first, so if you are a competition type you should love it. Based in the lower area of Darwen, here is their website. Darwen...

    Help/Advice please!

I don't like to see this, working and offering advice via PM. It means other members won't see what could be valid advice from which they also might benefit.

    Have you got cancer?

All went well being the first dose with now Saturday and Sunday off, however a full week of around a twelve mile journey there every day next week. Fifteen days of it in total with the last one being Christmas Eve. I just hope it does some good at the end of it all.

    Help/Advice please!

There really isn't a quick way, think back to when you were starting out, the higher registers didn't come easily then, it was only after many hours of practice of what you can manage that builds up the muscles. It is doing that once again, hours of practice of lower register, though it...

    Have you got cancer?

Thanks for the tips and info DS2014 I shall look into the moisturiser trick, I don't fancy a big red splodge of radiation burn. Bad enough some years ago when caught unprotected from strong sunburn all over my back, that was agony.

    Have you got cancer?

I will take the opportunity to again give the message, don't be scared of cancer and then hang back from seeing a doctor, this goes for any other form of the disease wherever it may be. The sooner it is recognised and caught early enough, the better your chances and also the less intense will be...

    New version of MuseScore

It is very true that what can be done in one software is either difficult or not possible in another, which is a good reason for learning at least the basics of several. That is a fact of life for a large number of other products, one make or model of car will be great at some things, and poor...

    Have you got cancer?

I have been for the radiotherapy assessment, had various small black dot tattoo's done for the alignment of the radiotherapy machine, and the therapy will start on Friday 4th December for fifteen days. Sadly the staff had already heard the joke about having to listen to the Archers or Terry...

Lord of The Rings Symphony (Johan De Meij) Tuba Part

For an experienced bass player of either Bb or Eb you may well be correct Gareth, however as the OP stated this is for a school band where the players are maybe still on the bottom rungs of the ladder. To actually rewrite the piece in a lower octave and as a Bb or Eb on a treble staff so that...

    New version of MuseScore

Having been the OP who started this thread regarding the newer version of Musescore, all I can add is that Musescore appears to me to be a mix of all the best bits of both Finale and Sibelius, with a few poor bits of its own! For anyone who swears by either Sibelius or Finale, I would ask that...

Lord of The Rings Symphony (Johan De Meij) Tuba Part

Now, and thanks to Philip things become a lot clearer, however we are back to the original question, has anyone already done a transposition? If not it requires someone with the knowledge, the time, and also a modern version of Finale installed who is willing to do just that! Don't look at me...

    Have you got cancer?

Ah, thank you Mesmerist, good old Barwick green. Actually a lovely piece of music, why don't they write them like that any more? I have played it once, a long time ago.

    Have you got cancer?

I am also going to ask if radio therapy means having to listen to Terry Wogan or some other radio DJ, the wicked sense of humour just won't go away.

A mouthpiece made of beech wood?

Some fifteen years ago while on holiday in Switzerland and visiting an alpine horn manufacturers, I did try a few notes out of an all wooden alp horn. I haven't a clue what the mouthpiece wood was, but it seemed OK and created a nice sound. Being sure of what note I was playing though was...
