DAVID HORSFIELD

It is with great sadness that, ( by the request of his family) I report the passing of my dear, dear friend, David Horsfield.
David (73), finally lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday 18th October at his home in BailiffBridge, Brighouse.

He will be remembered as a fine Cornet and Flugel player , gracing the stage with Clifton & Lightcliffe, Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and the James Shepherd Versatile Brass , of which he was a founder member. In addition he was an active member of the Brighouse Lions, being responsible for the now highly popular Brighouse March and Hymn Tune Contest.

With the support of his family, David founded Kirklees Music, publishers of Brass band music. For many years he was an executive member of the Band Traders Association and the Association of Brass Band Adjudicators (ABBA), undertaking many adjudication appointments worldwide.

David leaves a widow Jenny, and their two sons ,Graham and Martin.

Further details and Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

I have done that and at the request of the family , have compiled a list of all the remembrance /tributes that I have seen in the media and which were sent to me. Graham & Martin will be creating a memorial book for the family.

Your kind post is certainly in it and much appreciated. The service went well as befits such a wonderful friend , player a, colleague and gentleman. A band made up of friends and past colleagues provided appropriate music . Directed by Frank Renton /David Hurst and Denis Wilby....led by Roger Webster , and William Rushworth , a close friend of Davids played Demelza . The service was conducted by canon Wendy Wilby and her husband Philip Wilby played the Organ.
A fabulous turnout packed the Church . Readings and tributes were given by Martin Horsfield, Rosie Horsfield and myself . Brass band legends in abundance ....including James Scott , James Shepherd, Derek Garside , David Read all there to pay their respects. Apologies if I missed anyone, as I was rather occupied within the service and didn't get the chance to see everyone.
Best regards
