Not heard many whispers this year, but I saw a good source claiming Essay in the First Section.

Anyone got any other good runners and riders?

I've also heard Variations on a Bass theme suggested (also 1st) - bit of a tough one if it is.

It killed the 1st section in 1997.

Did a pretty decent job of sorting out the bands, but there were some car crashes. Do we make art or sport? If sport, about the right level for 1st section. If art, too hard for most in it. For 2nd section? Having a giraffe...

Surely a bit of a nod to the recently (too recently to feature in 2014 choices) deceased Butterworth / Macabe is due? Mind you it wouldn't surprise me if somebody at Kapitol decided Cloudcatcher or Odin are now 2nd section test pieces because they dont have enough cadenzas with high notes or tuned milk bottle solos.

After years of calling for it, I'd be sad if Odin was chosen as the champ section piece in a year when I was not in the section. But excellent shouts there. Also the also recently-deceased RSA.

Someone on an earlier thread had said Championship Sections piece began with a C.......someone else said it was a Philipp Sparke piece......if these two people are accurate, Cambridge Variations a possibility.

Not on that list, but we also contested on R.S.-A.'s "The Warrior Psalm" one year at Folkestone; possibly a good 2nd section choice ...
