I know Rockingham and Worsborough rehearse close to each other but their respective opening odds seem surprisingly at odds with their current ranking - Worsborough are sat joint first and Rockingham are 10th

Interesting odds for Holme Silver. On what basis have they been given odds of 16/1? I thought the band had disbanded, but I'll be delighted if that is not the case!

It's not really a question of homework as such.

From memory, Paddy has a ranking system (Elo, I think) which he uses to calculate the opening market. The market is then refined as more information is known and through bets.

If Wam have a ranking, they have a price. Shame they're not competing though.

CHANGE TO ADJUDICATORS FOR 2013

C. Brian Buckley and Roy Roe have withdrawn from adjudicating at the 2013 Yorkshire Championships due to health reasons.

Nigel Boddice will now adjudicate the Second Section with Barry Thompson on Saturday, 2[SUP]nd[/SUP] March and he will also adjudicate the Championship Section with Rob Wiffin on Sunday, 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] March.

On behalf of everyone involved we wish Brian and Roy a speedy recovery and express our thanks to Nigel for agreeing to replace them in the box at St. George’s Hall.

Peggy Tomlinson
Yorkshire Regional Secretary.

I would recommend that any competing band attends the workshop below on 6th January 2013 - it is very popular and highly informative.

PT.
OPEN HOUSE AT REGIONAL TEST PIECE WORKSHOP
Baliff Bridge Community Centre, Victoria Road,
Baliff Bridge, Brighouse. HD6 4DX.
SUNDAY, 6[SUP]TH[/SUP] JANUARY 2013.

Commencing: 1.30. pm.

The Association of Brass Band Adjudicators will be holding their Annual General Meeting during the morning of the above date at Baliff Bridge Community Centre. Following this meeting ABBA is joining forces with No 2 Area of The National Association of Brass Band Conductors in promoting an Open Workshop covering the chosen works for Sections 4 – 3 and 2 of the Regional Test Pieces for 2013.

This workshop which will commence at 1.30.pm will be open free of charge to any interested party to attend. The three pieces will be introduced by members of ABBA who will outline the various points of interest contained in the music from an adjudicating aspect. They will be assisted by Simone Rebello who will identify any percussion difficulties. The Skelmanthorpe Band conducted by John Roberts has been engaged for this Workshop. Ample opportunity will be given to members of the NABBC and anyone present to contribute both verbally and practically during the presentation of each piece.

It is proposed to allow 1hour 15 minutes for the exploration of each piece, with a break for light refreshments at some stage during the proceedings. This should result in a 5.30pm finish.

In promoting this workshop the two Associations are keen to encourage a large attendance. In fact, in view of the success of previous years we are moving to larger and better equipped premises this year. The event provides an excellent opportunity for Players, Conductors, Administrators, Adjudicators and all who have an interest in Competitions to exchange views on the many varied aspects of Contest Promotion, Preparation and Adjudication.

This is as bad as 4 bars rest predictions ! So out of touch with what s really going on.Some of these bands won t even be going to the area, one of the top places in the lower sections had only 11 players registered with them and 8 at a practice last week.
