Very pleased with our win in the Third Section. Champion Band for two consecutive years in the same section is an unusual occurrence given the subjectivity of adjudication and the promotion/demotion structure.

Not sure that's quite correct as the rules state "In the sections 1,2,3,4, the bands with the two best aggregate placing over the previous three years will be promoted. In the case where two or more bands tie with equal first placing, then only these bands will be promoted. If two or more bands tie with equal second placing, then these bands, in addition to the first placed band, will be promoted"

Huge congrats to the Long Eaton crew Shaz - another great result for you
Special congrats to my friends down at Ibstock, who've not had the best of luck over the last few years but have a trip to Cheltenham to look forward to.
Well done to all the prize winners over the weekend. We didn't get the result we thought we deserved after our performance, but I'm guessing we won't be the only ones. Commiserations to those in the same boat - let's go back stronger for it next year.

Well done to Stone Town coming 10th on their debut at the fourth section.
They had to deal with a bass player being wooed by second section band during preparation and only couple of weeks ago their Solo Trombone player died. Put that with unavailability of percussists for the day and you start to see the monumental feat they achieved. Well done Graham Randle.

Yes hope so. It's a great section. A bit large, but some great bands to make competitive.

with the 2nd Section being so small have there been any rumours of 'adjusting' the size of the 2 sections?
I've not heard any rumours - but i did wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that there are only 2 rooms over 2 days, so in order for the contest timings to work do we need to have two sections with smaller numbers that can be placed on the same day in the same hall - e.g. 2nd section and top section. That was the only reason I could think of - but I stand to be shot down.

The problem arose because a number of bands either dropped out of Championship Section (Thorntons, Ransome's and Rhodian) or 1st Section (Darley Dale, Amington, Ireland Colliery, Ifton, Snibston and Desford to name but a few) and either folded or didn't contest for a few years before returning in 4th Section, missing out the 2nd Section altogether. Although bands were promoted out of 2nd Section, which kept the 1st Section numbers stable, they weren't replaced by relegated bands.

It would probably make more sense to promote more up from the 3rd to second and 4th to third than try and relegate more bands down from the 1st. 18 seems like a fairly "normal" size for a large area like the Midlands and it might have some natural attrition in the next few years
