I have nothing to base these gradings on other than my own records and precident of how the Welsh do it so I expect there may be an error or two. If someone could direct me to a site with the tables or even an explaination of how it is done here I'd be grateful

Welsh grading tables can be found here: http://welshbrass.org.uk/id3.html

I think that Mellingriffith (M2) are still in the 4th section though following appeal.

Deano you are a legend, thank you. Let start again shall we...

Some unexpected-looking numbers of promoted and relegated bands in the tables at the posted link. What's the logic behind promoting 5 out of a 4th section of 11, and only relegating one band into that section? Or for that matter relegating 4 out of the top section (including good bands - Burry Port, Cwmaman, Newbridge, and Penclawdd being the four), and replacing them with only one promoted from the 1st.

It's not as if it evens up the numbers in the sections - it was previously 11-8-13-9-11, but according to that it would now be 8-12-11-14-7 - no improvement from that perspective.

I suppose the 4th section proms is to do with FOUR bands being tied on 13 grading points but surely a tie-breaker should be used (i.e. go to places of the most recent contest).

As I alluded to earlier, Wrexham NOT being promoted when FOUR were relegated out of the Champ is the biggest mystery...

Oh that's a strange one.

It's a combination of the 2nd ties (as above) and then the small sections. Is it less than 10 competing then only one promoted/relegated?

Yes.
Only 7 played in the 1st section this year, which is why Wrexham have stayed put.

On the bright side it'll reverse next year (2 up/1 dn) between the top and first sections.

Every chance of a Welsh Nationals victory with that line up as well. If the maths works out could be 3 up.

Wrexham would be your main chance of success at Harrogate next year. Ante-post I would fancy Hammonds, Freckleton & Hatfield ahead of them. Ratby, Bournemouth, Johnstone, will all be strong contenders too if they can navigate their respective minefields next March.

Our regional committee is working hard to stop the overgrading of bands and maintain the quality and credibility of our sections. Should work out in the medium term, and maybe some of the weaker areas should take note?

Newbridge (Celynen) haven't competed for a while now. Haven't heard if they'll be competing again in the regionals.
