So, a total lottery for the 2nd Section then. It honestly makes you wonder why we bother sometimes

Ahh!! When Oldham Band (Lees) only came 'only' 4th in the 2004 National Finals.

I didn't hear that performance but I have heard the band other times and there is little doubt that Oldham Band (Lees) have the sound of a 1st/Championship section band!
;)

(although he was adjudicating with Barry Thompson on that occasion)

Solo Cornets: David Pogson, Norman Christie, James Shepherd, Tim Carlise .

Did he do that one as well? I wasn't even thinking of that one to be honest! I was thinking of many many others over a very very long period sadly :frown:. It really is a very demoralising situation and sums up a lot that is wrong with our 'movement' these days. Still, all you can do is hope you leave your best performance on the stage and see what happens I guess. Ho hum.

In summary; win or lose, have a booze.:woo

Hi, just to say I will be conducting Parr at the areas. Finished at Skelmersdale last week and Parr kindly offered me the M.D. position.Must say, after having been preparing Labourand love, that the 4th section have been given a harder and far more rewarding peice in Saint Saens variations. Played it last night and was really impressed, really looking forward to this.

Not to sound daft here, but does anyone know if there is a contincency plan for the area in case anything goes wrong with winter gardens? I'm sure I read on 4barsrest that at the youth contest last week that the roof was unsafe in the ballroom. It seems they were able to move rooms, but the whatsit could really hit the fan if this happens when a number of contests are trying to run at once.

Suppose it leans towards that old debate of moving the area contest, but as has been said umpteen times, Blackpool is the only real viable option due to amount of rooms, cost etc.
