tubaloopy- much as i agree with your sentiment, i'm sure you've a better way to release your anguish at having to play in the rain yesterday. Let them have their moment. Much as it made me giggle you don't need to point out the blindingly obvious. Pint friday?....

By the way, did anyone else see duncan beckley looking out the caravan window at who was playing at diggle?

And from that question please don't read into it that i'm questioning how newstead got 4th and holme silver 7th as i didn't hear either of them.

Well Tubaloopy, where to start, please please, tell me that you are not a Bass player as I would be so embarrassed to play the same instrument as some one who spout so much dribble as you!
any one who is so self opinionated and bitter should not be allowed air time on this or any other grown up forum!

Looks like Emley (3rd section, 2nd section next year) have been awarded 2nd place in the 1st section at Grotton! Great result boys and girls, looks like it was our night there. We also won £32 at Grotton for being band 32 on the 32nd anniversary of the contest there.

Not wanting to rain on your parade Cheshire (see what I did there?) but this is obviously a completely bum result and looks to me like an administrative cock up.
I heard Briggus and Hepworth play there as the last 2 on and if a fourth section band has beaten both of those performances without either a) fielding a band of top section ringers or b) there being an admin error I will show my backside on the town hall steps.
Sorry.

Hey Tubaloopy - I look forward to seeing your backside then. Which town hall will it be so we can post some pictures on here of it?

He Tubaman, just had a thought:confused:
I will bring a spoon as well for "tubaloopy" to eat his humble pie.:oops:

For clarification we are a 4th Section Band, off to the finals and due to be promoted to 3rd Section in Jan 2010. We too were bemused by the 2nd section prize last year but the contest explained that is because we were placed higher than all the 2nd section bands.

We have no delusions of grandeur and are simply thrilled to get some good results at several contests after a good night out where the band played well.

You are welcome to come along to any of our concerts where you can judge for yourself the quality of the band.

It seems strange that they allow a 4th Section Band who came higher than a 2nd or 3rd section Band to win a 2nd Section Prize. Surely if this was to happen at all contests, Nationals, Regionals or Whit then why not make them all Open Class.

Even tho i may be winging i would still like to offer my Congratulations to Cheshire Constabulary.

Well Done Cheshire Constabulary (especially Di on trombone and Dave Firth). To the people who seem to be very unhappy with this result I hope you actually heard them! (no, I thought not!). I played with my Band at a pre areas concert this year where Cheshire Constabulary also played and was really impressed with them. To hear a result like this is great and just reinforces the beauty of the Whit Friday marches.

As a player with the Cheshire Constabulary Band I am pleased that the excellent work by both Dave Woollam (MD) and Tony Jackson (Drum Sergeant) has paid off.

Tubaloopy - Take a look at our website http://www.cheshirepoliceband.co.uk where our concerts are listed and come and have a listen, seems to me that you feel that the top prizes are ring fenced to the Championship bands.

It's a sad state of affairs when sour grapes enters the banding world and somebody seeks to play down somebody elses success.

I look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming concerts. http://www.cheshirepoliceband.co.uk/concert_list - band.htm

congrats on your results, all very good.

I have to say though that it is surprising that a 4th section band can get so many great results in one day - I look forward to following your continued success at the areas next year. If you can keep the band together you should be lloking forward to some great results.

I dont need to hear a performance to know that a Second? (Fourth was quoted earlier?) section band can not compete sound wise with one of the top top section outfits that were out this year.
Not possible.
If you did well at Delph it is possible that you will appear on the CD.
Compare your performance to that of Brighouse and Hepworth.
I hope you enjoy the moment, I really do, but please take this result as a lucky break.

Tubaloopy wind yer neck in.....welldone Cheshire Constabulary

irrespective of having higher section bias, looking at things objectively, you have to say that a fourth section band coming so high up is not logical. So, either the band played a blinder or there were other reasons, but for crying out loud can we just let things lie? it's gone, finished, over for another year, if you've been wronged then make sure you go back next year and play the best you can.

Fair results for a Hardworking band

Even tho i may be winging i would still like to offer my Congratulations to Cheshire Constabulary.

Should think so too Scooby, I was playing with the Police band at the weekend. :)

To answer the question about deps, I think there we three deps including myself.
All friends of the band and only there to cover for a player who could not make it.

The deps had nothing to do with the results. I said to the MD after the fourth contest, the band were playing exceptionally consistantly.
No drinking helps, also being prepared for the weather. The warm waterproof band issued coats were invaluable to ensure that we could play our best in terrible weather.

I agree, if I had not been involved on the day, and the 3rd placing at Denshaw was a one off, it would look like a freak result. But 7th, 8th and 9th also on the day proves the band are playing exceptionally well.

Anyway, thanks to the Police band for a superb Whit Friday. It was nice to march with a band, who don't look like Michael Flattley trying to get on the left foot all night! ;-)
