Every1 seems to put on here the best players of each instrument except gods instrument bass trombone!

So who is every1s favourite bass trombone player?

i think the best ones are the one from Grimethorpe and Brighouse hands down!

Sorry, but i think that is very rude. I think your first three words were totally unnecessary!

For me it's a toss up between Adrian Hirst & Gerraint Griffiths.

Frosty by a mile! Also Adrian H, Camilla Tveit, Gaz Beck to name but a few more of many.

You have no case for that sort of opinion on here. I actually think B & R have a cracking band and that includes the trombone section

Would say my fav bass trom players are Mark Frost, Adrian Hirst and Gerraint Griffiths. The best i'v heard - and they make their bands so successful, whoever they play for.

He's probably already read this, but I'll tell him you said it anyway.
He is very good (I know, I sit next to him)

Does this only include Brass Band Bass 'Bonists?

There may be cracking Bass bone players in Orchestras but brass band bass bonists in the top bands ultimately have the bigger role and are best recognized. Most of the bass trom players mentioned i'm sure have played in some of the best orchestras anyway

I was going to put Ben Van Dijk, Doug Yeo and Lorna McDonald forward for it.

Van Dijk is the most amazing Bass 'Bonist I have ever seen. His tone in all registers is gorgeous.

apology

From the past, I must mention :-

Ian Copland - Dyke
Derek Roebuck - Brighouse
And just because I loved his sound,
Laurie Mann - Carlton Main Frickley.

- Wilkie

On Whit Friday there must be at least 6 or 7 best Soprano prizes to be won , nearly every contest has a best cornet prize , quite a few have best Euphonium prize but no-one out of about 20 odd contests has a best Bass Trombone prize ?

The Bass Trombone adds a massive amount to a contest march ( and test pieces as well ) but non of these guys ( or girls ) ever come home with a trophy to their name !

Speaking as a Sop player who (without being bigheaded has won the odd individual award ) cant understand why no contests whatsoever dont have a best Bass Trombone player ?

Maybe we might see one soon ?

Poor fella....I wouldnt mind, but one of the people who seem so keen to admonish you is forever banging on about people being over sensitive and being allowed to voice opinion...
If you prefer the Bass bone at grimethorpe then so be it!!! ;)

i love it when a band has 3 quality players, being the sop, flugel and bass trom, those 3 sounds are unique in a brass band and add fantastic quality to any piece!, have to agree with what mark w has said tho, would be good to have a prize for the bass trombone player!
