Scrap Metal Thieves targetting brass bands!
The Johnstone Band's bandhall was broken into between 10pm on Tuesday 29th May and 7pm on Tuesday 5th June. Thieves made off with 2 bb basses, 2 eb basses, 3 trombones, 2 euphoniums, 2 baritones, 1 tenor horn, 3 cornets, and 4 bells from a set of tubular bells. They didn't take the cases so it's likely the instruments were intended to sold for scrap metal. However, we have found out that the current rate for this type of scrap is only £2.60 per kilo so the instruments, minus cases, might be for sale.
Please keep an eye out for our instruments and remember to keep an eye on your own instruments and the security of your bandhall. Anyone with any information should contact Johnstone CID or you can PM me through this site or the Johnstone Band facebook page.
We will still be playing on Friday 8th June as the Olympic Torch passes through the neighbouring town of Lochwinnoch and would like to express our thanks for the messages of support and offers of help that we have received from throughout the brass band community in Scotland.
