Nobody really wants to hear the Tuba play serious stuff. Maybe a few Tuba players and a few nerds but bottom line the ear doesnt lend its self to low sounds, so making a feature of it is not the best idea. Dont knock the cheese, most of it is better
than the highbrow stuff anyway. For the Tuba to be of medium interest it has to go high...about as high as the comfortable Euph range.....so...................

OK, it ain't exactly Gregson's Tuba concerto, but it's not an old 'Danse Humoresque' either is it? Great fun piece but with a serious undertone.

Low pitch, low brow "Music for a larff?" surely that's what the bass trombone is for

Just look at tenor trom solos. There is some lovely stuff out there, but the only one the public wants or remembers is "The Acrobat".
You know, even if these novelty "Funny Ha Ha " Bass and trom Solos are a bit musically demeaning, I suppose that there is a case for if the audience enjoys them as a bit of light relief then bands are justified in including them.
