    Outside of banding.

Most posters on tMP have familiarised themselves with other 'regulars' and their banding interests.
I thought a thread on other interests, outside of banding, might be fun.
I am something of a telly addict, being a child of the 50s, I have watched TV develop and grow in influence on our lives.
Recently, I recorded my third appearance on a game/quiz show (Weakest Link), which is due to be aired on the afternoon of Friday, 2nd March).
I have also been on 'Blankety Blank' (with Les Dawson) and 'Bullseye' (on which my brother-in-law and I, won a car).
Appearing on 'The real Brassed Off', with Snibston and Desford band, was also a great experience.
What secret life do you have?

    A 'Rapier' wit!
Maybe I should drop the 'secret' and adjust it to 'other'?
Sadly, some devote their lives to one interest only.
I am now off to my carpet weaving and morris dancing classes!

Did you cut the car in half?

I'm a keen golfer away from band, it's not that secret though

No, though car sharing was never an option!
We sold it back to the supplying dealer and split the money.

I always thought it was compulsory to win a speedboat in Bullseye?

Anyway: For me its motorsports in all its variations. I've sat in the rain through hours of GT races, watched more than my fair share of touring cars and formula one races, scrambled up muddy banks to watch rallying loonies throwing themselves at the scenery - I even did a stint of marshaling, but dropped it after nearly being cleared up by a barrel-rolling MKII Escort. Basically if its got an engine and wheels (2 or 4) involves racing it either against the clock or A.N.Other then I'm into it.

Also I have a passion for Italian Cars, in particular Alfa Romeos, but I try not to admit that too often in public...

I always thought that Alfas sat still most of the time and rotted in front of your eyes (like Lancias!) ?
It's Jags and MGs for me Ian.
I have an X300 Sovereign and MGZT at present, though plenty of BGTs, Roadsters and Midgets in days gone.
Still waiting for the money to buy that Bentley!

    Outside banding? Trumpet playing!

Also, the Sherlock Holmes stories (written and dramatised), old, cr@p horror films (ones with Lee, Cushing, Price - Vincent, not Katie - Karloff, Lugosi etc.), golf (watching rather than playing, due to me being rather bad at the latter), and generally listening to and participating in musical activities not connected with banding (choirs, ensembles, orchestras when I get the chance - no orchestra on Arran!)

That should have said ....'participating in other musical activities when not taking part in banding'! Might have looked like 'Anything but banding'!...

Funny that, I always thought the same about old Jags and MGs... Although I absolutely understand the attraction, as I do with fans of any car/marque (except maybe Morris Marinas and Austin Allegros).

I had an MGF VVC, smashing car, very under-rated.
As for the Marina comment - well!
They were extremely exciting to drive in the 1.8 coupe form, light on the rear, just right for opposite-lock interaction!
The 1800 Jubilee was a lovely car. No, I am not taking the p!
Get them Ziebarted or Endrusted and they were a bargain buy!

Outside of banding? I love motorcycles. Whether it be bike racing or going out and riding them, I'm an addict through and through. At two points in history I have owned three at the same time. Suzuki Marauder 125, Honda VFR400RR, Yamaha XJ600S Diversion, Suzuki GSX1400 and Honda CBR400RR (tri-arm) in that order. Alas, because of financial pressures the only one I still own is the VFR.... and even that's SORN at the moment.

I'm also a big fan of classic rock and metal. I love the thick, heavy sound of the harmony used in metal, and that comes through in my writing and arranging, which though not really outside of banding is still something I don't do in the practice room or on the stage so I guess it kind of counts....

Other than that, I like Video games, Chinese food, and real ale. My favourite sport is MotoGP, closely followed by other forms of motorcycle racing, and I'm rather partial to a bit of test cricket, rugby union and association football of any description - though I tend to dip in and out of those at intervals.

And I'm marrying my lovely girlfriend next year.

I think your automated ordering of paragrpahs has let you down there, Andi...
