Congratulations to South Yorkshire Police and Knottingley, great to see two Yorkshire bands in the top four, heard both bands over the summer and both impressed me. Commiserations to Hebden and Meltham, don't think being in the early part of the draw helped either band, always hard to win off a number one draw as I found out at Butlins this year. Ah well, it's only contesting, but well done again to Knottingley and South Yorkshire Police, you did Yorkshire proud!

Well done to all the bands in the 1st Section - my first trip to the Nationals (what a hideous stage to play on sound wise!), special well done to the winners and prize winners.

Had a fantastic weekend, albeit a little bit messy. Looking forward to a return visit in the future.

Many congratulations to all prizewinners in todays marathon 4th section.
Sincere commiserations to Besses Boys who to the well meaning amateur ear (mine) were a class above anything else on display.

Well done, and congratulations to all.

10.15pm and still four 3rd Section Bands to play?

Memories of Torquay again. Absolutely rediculous.

WORK IN THE MORNING AND STILL IN HARROGATE.
    What time the results?

    When will they learn.

And people wonder why brass banding is in decline?
The organisers have a lot to answer for.

I remember National Finals in Torquay, we played early on, thankfully, but I can remember being so tired waiting for the results that we got a taxi back to the hotel and went straight to bed. The organisers didn't seem to realise how long the test piece took to perform, surely they've picked the piece, they must know how long it takes to perform? Can't believe it's happened again, just not good enough!

We got to harrogate conference centre for the draw not long before the draw for the third section at half one. The section started one hour and 45 mins later than stated and we drew last out of the hat. We didn't play until after half past ten. We finished seventh and are quite happy but I have never ever been so exhausted after playing at a contest, its impossible to play your best after having had to hang around for that length of time. We are now on our bus back to Kent as a few of us (mainly teachers) have to work in the morning. We will get back at about five

Ouch, and to think I was slightly grumpy getting back just after midnight on Sat night.

Needs to be a rule - No singing after Watford Gap, I reckon.

I listened to all 21 bands in the 4th section. Have to say that Besses were robbed blind. Hazel Grove played very well and I had them in the top six but there were a fair few slips in their performance and Besses were a totally different class to every other band.

In the draw Jim Davies did say that he didn't care about the draw order and that if you were drawn first but gave a good performance you would win which I thought was quite a strange thing to say at the time.

Also, at a lot of contests the organisers estimate how many bands they can get through an hour. They wouldn't do that yesterday, perhaps that's the reason for such a late start for the 3rd section.

Did he say would or could?...if its the former, then it looks like he had the winner picked before the contest

Well done to the winners, special congrats to Besses Boy's

P.S. Can Yorkshire still claim to have the best bands in the country? (Ooo controversial ) Only 3 wins across the lower sections in the last 5 years and only the 2nd section bands getting good results this year?
