Hi Dave,
It may come back in another form, but not in the immediate future.
very few nominations, "secondings" and votes
Ive always thought that the website of the month competition should be on the main home page for voting to make it easy for people to vote and get involved(or at least a link). Having the competition hidden away like it is makes it less likely individuals will be interested. Its the same with a lot of the forum, when i log into the mouthpiece i usually only view the summary of posts on the home page and never actually click on 'forums' and view the sub forums ect (well rearly anyway).

I've been wondering this for a month or so now too,
I only discovered WSOTM, in January, and now it's gone.
Hope it comes back.

It becomes meaningless if the bulk of the votes are cats by friends of the site concerned.
I ran a similar thing on an annual basis in partnership with the Brass Band Mailing List and to be honest, even once a year it often became a challenge to weed out the duplicate votes. Obviously, technology has changed since then and we have poll technology which can help to reduce this.
To be able to boast about being web site of the month or quarter even based on less than 50 votes devalues it imho.
And not forgetting, the funniest band related site isn't allowed a link on here anyway! (Plebley Spannerworks url was removed last time anyone posted it).
Website of the Quarter. More bands allowed in the voting if you do that. This is sad to me. It was the first thing that drew me to this forum. It is a good way for newbies to be involved without jumping right into the fray.
Perhaps a sponsor of the quarter that gives out cash or credit prizes.

This might work! You only have to look at some websites to see that, unfortunately, they are not regularly updated (if at all). When this happens the browser is less likely to revisit the site.
Even top bands fall foul to this, but if you want to entice people to look at your site it needs to be up to date and appealing. 'Appealing' is subjective I admit, but there are some really good sites out there that obviously have committed webmasters or whatever they're called (and before I'm shot down in flames, I know they take time, but if you're going to do something at least do it properly).![]()
