    Instrument Repair - Soverign Cornet

    Good afternoon all,

I need to have my Soverign Cornet looked at. The 2nd valve water spring has become slightly bent and has moved slightly to the side . It doesn't seem to affect the playing of the instrument and I don't get any leakage from it.

However, I would like to get it fixed at some point (as my band will pick up the tab).

Does anyone know any good brass repairers in the Sheffield area who could make this repair?

    Thanks all,

    Nick.

I don't know of any in Sheffield, but if you're willing to make the journey, Fred Rhodes in Saddleworth do repairs. www.fredrhodes.com
They did a good repair to my horn and very quickly too.

Owen Wedgewood (from Otley) does an excellent service on cornets - he's had quite a few instruments from Killamarsh and just done two more for BBSBB.

Good work and sensible rates charged. He's often in Sheffield as he gets his plating work done locally and he's generally happy to call and collect and return instruments once repaired. I'll PM his contact numbers to you.

I am surprised your local music shop can't provide and fit a new spring, as that is all that is required. However I have heard good reports of a Warrington based repairer, calling himself Brass Toff. Though he may be a bit far away for you.

What the hell kind of cornet has a 2nd valve water key?

Glad you're sorted, but if anyone does need an instrument repairer in sheffield, Keith Burdett is in the southwest of the city.

You're the first to pint out my mistake. LOL

Cornet is being fixed and serviced at the moment.

Fingers crossed it will be ready for rehearsal on Tuesday.

    Hi all,

Just a final update regarding this one.

I got the cornet back on Friday and it looks and plays just great. The repair is first class and the service has certainly brought it back up to a professional standard.

If anyone needs and brass repairs I would certainly recommend Owen Wedgwood. His number is: 0780 1562156.
