As has now been announced, I’m delighted to confirm that my new piece
MUSIC FOR BATTLE CREEK
commissioned by the Brass Band of Battle Creek from the USA, has been selected for this year’s National Championships at the Royal Albert Hall.
Until the day of the contest, it will only be available to competing bands, who can order it from my distributors, De Haske UK (details below).

well 1st section piece ive never heard of but i played The Beacons by Ray Steadman Allen when it was the Area Test Piece.
That was good to play and to listen to,ive never yet to hear a poor piece by Ray Steadman Allen so im really looking forward to this one for the National![]()

Solos right across the band - including BBb- and needing players who can hold their nerve! It will be interesting to see how the conductors approach it, as I've heard various interpretations since the premiere in 1978: Stephen Cobb's most recent rendition was very convincing, balancing the various sections and producing something very Ivesian.
