Been doing my calculations and this is who I reckon is in the promotion/relegation spots

    Championship Section
    Relegated
    Cottingham 27 points
    Shepherd building Group 24 points
    Barrow shipyard 24 points

    First Section
    Promoted
    Easington Colliery 7 points

    RelegatedGateshead Brass 22 points
    York Railway Institue 22 points

    second section
    promoted
    Lockwood Brass 6.5 points
    Relegated
    Spennymoor Town 15 points
    Cockerton Silver 15 points

    Third Section
    promoted
    Durham Constabulary 11.5 points
    Dearham 12 points
    Deleted from table
    Flookborough
Relegated(as 1 band has been deleted from table for not competeing 3 years in a row I am not sure if 1 band or 2 will be relegated)
Swinton & District excelsior 24 points
Ripon 20 points (only if 2 bands are demoted)

    fourth section
    promoted
    Barton Brass 11.5 points
    Barrow concert 12 points
Deleted from table (have not competed 3 years in a row)
    Lanchester
    Burneside

Please note these are not official promotion/ demotions they are just what I have worked out and all bands do have the right to appeal which may affect results. I also apologise to any band if I have your points wrong

Seems a bit harsh if Cockerton are relegated, coming 3rd at the weekend!

It does but when there are so few bands in the section only 1 is promoted/relegated unless there is a tie as in this case so both bands get demoted. It is the marks over 3 years that are added together and cockerton were unlucky in that they had a 7th and a 5th. However they do have the right to appeal.

If they'd come 2nd, they'd have still have been relegated then? Where are all these number things anyway?

Biggest congrats to Stape (our lass's band) and Gary Hallas.

A tremendous achievement, considering a couple of weeks ago they might not have been able to compete. (Two players seriously let the band down, leading to the flugel player going back on sop, the MD sitting down on flugel and a quick signing of a former player on bass.).....
    ......Enter Gary Hallas.....
............the groundwork may have been done, but nothing should decry from his enthusiasm, his superb direction and musicality. He shaped an excellent performance (particularly the middle movement) that thoroughly deserved second place. (Durham Constabulary must have been pretty good to beat it!)

Well done all...especially Kat (top lass), Sharon (sop), Mike on flugel and, of course our very own Ploughboy....Gary Hallas.

    Sud.

(OOps...not forgetting Our Lass Tanya (Solo Horn))

I think it is harsh if they go down because they contested, regardless of the result. Some consideration should be given to those that attend the areas.
Sorry if that doesn't make sence - it anoys me that you do your best and still get kicked!

That's what I thought. They could have saved themselves the hassle and cost of going to the contest and playing if they were going to be relegated anyway!!

Isn't there a notional number for bands who don't compete, such as a score of 8 or something. I'm sure I've seen that somewhere. But I could be imagining it...

"any band failing to compete is which is disqualified from the contest in particular year will be given one place less than the lowest competing band in that section".

Well done to Felling - I had a feeling they'd come top of the 1st section pile.

No if they'd come 2nd they would have had 14 points so only the band with 15 points would have been relegated.

As they were in last place going into the contest if they hadn't competed they would definatly been relegated, by competeing there was a chance they could stay up. They were unlucky in that they came 1 place below what they needed to stay up.
To work out your points if you come 1st you get 1 point, 2nd you get 2 points. Any band that doesn't compete is automatically placed 1 place below the last placed band on the day. Your points over the last 3 years are added up. If it is your first time in a particular section due to promotion or relegation you are given average points for the past two years
