We (or our contest secretary) filled out the names, date of birth, etc ourselves so I can't understand how the cards could be wrong?

That is like saying the football world cup is unfair on european countries as there are far more better teams in europe than in asia.

Unless someone knows of a band where the players are assigned to the band by some outside entity?

I am registered and I didn't PAY a penny, my band did ! :-)

So, as far as I can tell, 2 unnamed players have decided not to register with Kapitol and 1 tMp member has started publicly that they have also decided against registering.

No more of a solution than not registering with Kapitol - either way your will not be helping your band improve/maintain (or even lower) their ranking at the area contest.

According to the Midlands area website there are only 17 bands in the 1st section this year

The purpose of the area championships is to:
1. Promote/relegate bands into 5 sections based on their performances
2. Find the best bands in each section to represent the area t the national...

A completly wrong choice of test piece (IMO)

Many tears ago I broke my jaw and lost several teeth in a motorbike accident, when I started playing again I found the tenor horn mouthpiece too small so moved on to bigger and better things :-)
