I've just recalled also that when I joined Leeds Model Band as a lad in 1960 there was a solitary girl in the band called Delia Hodgson on first horn who I seem to recall eventually married John...
When I did my first course for the NYBBGB in 1961 we had a hundred lads and about eight girls. The ratio remained about the same up to my leaving in 1964. Competition was fierce !

About ten years ago a 2nd section band I played with were asked to do a short march followed by a 1/2hr concert at a local Community Day. We didn't really want to do it so we quoted £600 ~ They bit...
Regarding girls in top bands, in the mid 60s when the British Open was at Belle Vue one of the highlights of the day for us teenage band lads was when Templemore Avenue Band from Belfast took to the...

Ah, we connect again Stuart ~ I played "Mephi" with Imps on many Whit Fridays in the '60s. Most enjoyable, and we collected our fair share of pots. In fact, in 1970, ( I think) out of only seven...
Mephis, Ravenswoods, Wizards and Senators only then eh ? (And Standard of St George on the march so you can give it plenty of wellie !)

I am old friend ~ Nice to welcome you back, or are you just popping in to see how things are going?
Nothing has changed on here one iota, same old same old, but quite interesting now and again ~ Get...
I was just thinking that it might be an idea to set a choice of two test pieces for each of the lower sections, a tough one, and one not quite as tough and bands could choose which one to play. To my...
Jeans with holes in of course, Oh !, and you must show your underpants waistband and a bit more at the back to to be really up with the smart trendies. Then they only need a red nose to complete the...
