We were stunned to make a clean sweep of the 2nd section prizes off a number 1 draw against such tough competition and retaining the march and soloist prize from last year.
From What I know in our...
As someone has stated online 'As devisive in death as in life'. She liked brass bands and had a brass band track on desert islands disks. As for having tea with Pinochet and Hussain, as it is said...
Was watching the concert/wind bands this morning. I wouldn't say I'm a great fan of wind bands but thought Paris Sketches by Ellerby was very enjoyable, I want to play it!
Being a bit of a devils advocate, doesn't registration prevent two bands claiming a player is due to play for them or for a band coercing/poaching a vital player two weeks before a contest?
Ooo a musical oscilloscope, every oscilloscope I've used only makes a noise when they're switched on.
:)
4 - Play at a local contest, choose your own piece and don't worry about the cost of playing at the national finals.
I agree it will be forgotten by anyone outside the movement, but it's been 8 years since Ron Atkinson made his racial remark on TV. When did you last see him on sports TV?
Tuned percussionist has been recruited, but we are still in need of a kit player. Unfortunately our Bb player has had to leave due to ill health. We would also like to strengthen the band with a 1st...
And Cranbrook are on there even though we have withdrawn. We were going to do a day transfer of a percusionist from the first section, but didn't think it was fair for them to be hanging around for...
Hi. You are welcome to come along to Cranbrook Town Band for a rehearsal and see what we are like. Although we don't have a current vacancy for solo trombone, I know our current solo trombone player...
Presto- where band players purchased cheap pies and beer in the 90's
Previously all anthems were re-arranged at each olympics but this years are going to be reused, so we are going to be stuck with it for the next couple.
"Lacking style" - that's not the way I would have played/conducted it
"Rounded performance" - Mediocre
"Good ending"- got to the end of the piece and hadn't written any thing nice
"Would...
Musical director: Someone who chooses the music to play
Principal Bass: Nominated bass player who stays sober enough to play the tricky bits.
Social Band: Half the band go down the pub after...
Although it has been previously said, basing a piece of music around a hymn or choral tune could been seen as a constraint, it does mean the audience does have a tune they might recognise which helps...
Like the British army brass band?
My mum mentioned there was an article in the Daily Telegraph today about the Whit Friday marches. I couldn't find it on the web site, but a web search found this pre event article in the Guardian
We were pleased with Cranbrook's result and for Vicky who took the soloist prize. We played Westward Ho and Glorifico Aeternum by Dean Jones. Really enjoyed playing Glorifico Aeturnum, would be good...
Good luck to the bands taking part today. It's been a long time since I've played at the Hawth.
I don't know if you get better sound quality, but it is reapeated today (21st) at 5:30 on BBC HD
Surprised no one has posted a link to this as it was on TV last night.
In the second category final in the series, the spotlight is on five gifted brass competitors - tenor horn player Jonny...
Yes, unfortunately Rimmer is a very common name in Southport. Maybe someone should contact the Rimmer Family History Society for help. I sure they would be interested in a famous Rimmer. I remember...
Just happened to be scanning through the radio stations in the car today and come across this concert by Black Dyke, which I thought some might want to listen to. Apologies if it has been mentioned...
