Surely that requires a new ranking of uberboc? :p
If you can find one I'd have a look at a JK mouthpiece. I have a JK5 and find it very easy to play above the stave but still get a decent sound below the stave and comfortable to use (it feels like...
I enjoyed conducting and playing at the weekend, although neither band got the best of results. I didn't get to hear many bands but did get to hear NASUWT Concert in the 3rd section and thought they...
Good luck to all the competing bands..here's hoping for a great weekend.
Our turn next, although still not used to waiting this long to perform at the areas.
Looking forward to my 2nd contest here as a conductor and playing for the first time since 2005. Good luck to...
It's old, no top C's for 3rd cornet, and there isn't 5 percussion parts and its too easy for 4th section? (<- tounge firmly in cheek)
Top post Dave (as usual) and the one talking sense (as usual). I think this is the point I was (unsuccessfully) trying to make, you might suffer for missing parts but if the rest of the ensemble is...
All I'm trying to say is that the judges have made a decision on what they have heard, and deemed that even with parts missing, it was a good performance. Just because you have a full band doesn't...
So bands should be penalised regardless of how they play, just because an added dimension of the overall picture doesn't go in? If so half the bands competing at the areas this year shouldn't bother...
Well done to all the winners from the weekend.
I ventured down to Yorkshire for the first time since I was at uni and heard all the bands in the 4th section. The section was very competitive and...
As I've said before surely you should be marked on what the judges can hear, not what they can't. If the overall performance is technically assured and musically engaging, surely the bands...
1st and 4th section are on the Saturday, with the 1st section starting at 1 o'clock and the 4th scheduled to start at 3:10...I think!
I think the running order for the Sunday is 3rd, 2nd,...
:clap: I've been banging on about allowing borrowed players for yonks....don't hold your breath though, you'll probably just get a load of posters from the "bigger" regions saying that borrowed...
This again comes back to the argument for borrowing players at the regional contest. If bands could borrow, we wouldn't have discussions like this every year.
Not sure how getting brass players to...
Depends whether you'll do something interesting on camera, top D FFF in a PP session? Or sit and heckle from the front row....ah the memories.
Seriously though, good luck mate, hope it goes well....
Yeah I realised as soon as I'd posted the mistake I made.
Hardest piece of music I've had to conduct/play in a long time. Loving the 3rd and 4th movements though, is it just me or has he robbed harmonies from "What will we do with a drunken sailor"?
I...
Sent you an email this morning :)
After the Durham league contest I expect to see some big shift in Paddy's odds, North Skelton have to be considered massive favourites in the 4th section and the...
I did one after the area last year, but didn't update it for this year, but pretty easy to see the points/gradings for this year by removing the first column. If you PM me your email i'll send it to...
Sorry I thought less than 8 bands meant only one qualifier.
Only one band to qualify from 1st and 2nd section this year....that's a NoE band not winning the Nationals then!
4th section looks like its going to be a competitive one this year, looking forward...
Thanks Dave, I'll check it out.
I know that there was one in Yorkshire at the beginning of January, does anyone know if there are more lined up and where?
:tup Cheers Fran, I knew I wasn't making it up :)
