Hi guys,

I'm playing at a wedding in a few weeks and need a Trumpet (in Bb) and organ/piano part for the Prelude from Te Deum by M.A Charpentier.

I'm struggling to find a copy that isn't for trumpet in C, my transposition skills are awful and the only copy I've found transposes the trumpet part up, I would rather have one that takes the piano part down!

Could anyone out there recommend a version which I could get my hands on quickly (possibly download) and cheaply?

Thanks in advance

Some very tidy playing by the boys (and Rebecca) at Zone One, often putting their necks on the line in order to carry out Chris' wishes!

And its great that the BBC used a London band!

Hi guys!

Just looking to get some advice really on the Geneva Symphony Euphonium.
Currently playing on a Besson Prestige but multiple problems later and Besson not giving a flying f*** (excuse the french) I'm looking at several different options.
Which brings me to the Geneva. Has anyone or does anyone play one of these Euphoniums? They seem top notch but just wanting peoples opinions on how they blow compared to Besson, tuning, build quality etc?
Plus the lifetime guarantee is something i see as a huge bonus after my recent problems.
People will say try them which - of course i will, and i will be looking at the alternatives so if you have any suggestions please let me know :)

Thanks

Elland Silver Youth Band are one of the UK’s finest established Youth Brass Bands.

They have a membership of over 35 players aged from 10 – 18 years and are renound for their innovative and entertaining performances at venues across the country. The band is in demand locally to perform at workshops and concerts. They have performed at many of the UKs finest concert halls and later this year will be performing at the BBC Children in Need Concert in Huddersfield Town Hall.

On Saturday 18th May the band are hosting an Open Rehearsal from 10-12pm at their bandroom in Dewsbury Road, Elland. The Open Day is for young brass and percussion players in the area who would like a chance to play challenging and enjoyable music with other players of their own age group.

Young players from the organisations training band have been invited to help motivate and inspire them to achieve the standard required by the youth band.

“Here at Elland we have an interest in developing our young players from beginners to advanced level musicians. We don’t audition our players, instead we listen, coach and encourage them to achieve the high standards set by the band and their Musical Director, Samantha Harrison” explained secretary, Kathleen Harrison.

We can also loan good quality instruments to players, for example trumpet players are welcome to come along and borrow a Bb cornet.

Any young players who might be interested in coming along should contact the bands Musical Director, Samantha Harrison on 07940 525837 or email ellandband@hotmail.co.uk

Hi

I am going to the European Championships tomorrow (as a spectator) and a question just came to me. Since the Europeans includes an own choice selection would the bands have to buy 3 additional scores to submit to the adjudicators or would photocopies fall into the "fair use" categori?

I am aware that in this case the added expence (perhaps 3 * 20 quid) would be negligable to the overall cost of attending the championships, but what about an entertainment contest with perhaps 6 or 7 items played and 2 or 3 adjudicators. Then it amounts to quite a large sum of money.

Just wondering - hopefully not opening a can of worms.

Cheers Erik

On brassbandresults at the moment we also have entries for a Joseph Harrison and a Jack Harrison [Was John Harrison also known as Jack?] which seem to be in a state of some confusion. Does anyone know which J. Harrison conducted the following bands?

I applaud the brilliant opportunities being offered to our younger, aspiring players (a real credit to the bands concerned).
My question is: Is there a place for players of a certain age/ experience, beyond being relegated down the ranks?
Would an organisation such as the National Lottery, consider funding a band of Veterans, who could then support the development of younger players?
I am approaching 56 years of age, still capable, but frustrated that more and more bands see me as an assistant euph, or second bari, rather than the Principal player I have always been.
Obviously, as an ex-school teacher, I strongly support the development of the younger generation, but I am increasingly frustrated by the lack of opportunities available to a person of my age, in banding, without the threat of losing status.
I have always depended on bands supplying instruments to use, thus have never had one of my own. This now leaves me in a situation where it is difficult to find a suitable position, but am unable to keep my lip in, due to lack of instrument (and instrument costs exploding beyond my financial means).
There must be many in my situation, I am sure that given the opportunity to create a band and compete, we could work our way through the sections and support the banding community at the same time, with work-shops and learning opportunities for the younger groups that we could visit and perform for.
We do live in a young persons' world, I have no qualms about that, I would just like to see the older generation valued and our experience appreciated more.
