A sticky is one that stays at the top of the forum/thread list. If you want a thread that you post to be a sticky, you have to plead with one of the mods to get it made sticky. Or bribe them if that's the way you work :)

Bribes! Of course we take bribes - £10 usually! . . . . anyway just to show you exactly what a 'Sticky' is, I've made this a thread a 'Sticky' - For FREE!

Typical capitalist attitude from Mr Thorne there. I hope he shelled out and bought his winning band a drink :)
(I won't even mention 1 glass and straws)
This is my 1900th post. Might as well live dangerously :)

I though Post-it note was the generic name for a post-it note...

Was that an unnecessary post to increase your daily average, Lynchie? :-D

Because it "sticks" at the top of the page, and doesn't move down in deference to more recent postings.

... just like a Post-It note!
... just like a Post-It note! Unless you stick it at the bottom of a page! Or middle. Anywhere but the top, in fact! ;)

To answer lynchie's earlier question about the generic name for a Post-It Note, be aware that Post-It is a registered trademark of the 3M Corporation. The patent on the glue (which is the important part) ran out a few years ago, so generic sticky notes are now sold, but Post-It refers to ones sold by 3M only.

To be really offensive, Kirsty, you might try spelling it peasant! :)

How stupid am I then? i thought it was called a sticky because it got stuck and didn't always load properly so i tended to ignore them.
Doh!

nooooo, wouldn't that be the brand name for a post-it note? I guess a yellow stick-on note would really be the generic name for a Post-it note...
