It was the first time I had been principal cornet of a winning band - so chuffed to bits with my band. I was proud to be borrowed as principal cornet for Sacriston too, they gave a creditable performance. It was a fantastic day all in all. :D

I bet my band is the most consistent on here, we've got the same result for about the last 5 contests.

Neil

Hard luck. I played with Easington before Christmas and thought you were back on the way up again. Who is conducting now and what did you (and other bands) play?

well for some reason we played passacaglia, but other bands had played at the shield and senior cup, and played whichever testpiece they played there. the Northern 1st section champions only came 7th, so 9th wasn't as bad as it sounds.

we've got stuart gray conducting at the moment by the way.

sorry neil, need to disagree with you there, we (johnstone) did play at the senior trophy the week before where we played tournament for brass, we played Tallis Variations at Whitehaven.
Not the same piece we had played the week before

Did the winners (Holme Silver) play Paganini Variations? They played that at Buxton but hadn't competed at Blackpool to the best of my knowledge.

don't really know to be honest, i'm assuming holme silver did play pagannini, but didn't really get chance to listen to many bands.

well done to splitnote and johnstone band.

Yes, we certainly did play Paganini, thankfully a huge improvement on the nervy performance at Buxton the week before.

we've got stuart gray conducting at the moment by the way.

He used to conduct ovington tynedale for years and years in my cornet playing days. (Ironically it seems his only contest victory with us was at Whitehaven!)He helped my playing sooo much and is one of the nicest blokes you'll ever play under! (And a mag who lives in sunderland!)

Ask him if he remembers me. (Me being Colin Harding former Ovington Tynedale backrow cornet)
