View Full Version : tMP Band to play at 2004 Pontins
Roger Thorne
19.07.2004, 21:37
Hi Folks,
Due to the success and enjoyment of performing with the tMP band we thought it would be a great idea to try and secure another ‘full’ concert performance in the near future. We are pleased to announce that we have managed to ‘provisionally’ book two solo performances at the forthcoming Pontin’s Contest.
We have asked if we could perform for about an hour early on the Saturday Evening and also present a short programme prior to the Championship Section results being announced on the Sunday.
It’s looking very positive that the Saturday performance will go ahead, but we are awaiting an announcement from the Adjudicators, via the organisers, as to whether or not they are willing to have a band play whilst deliberating their results.
Although you may have a lot of questions to ask regarding these performances, at this present moment we are looking for our members to volunteer to play in this band. Obviously with the amount of members attending this contest we may have to limit the numbers, so we invite you to post your availability in this thread, and if your own band isn't playing at Pontin's, this could be a good enough reason for you to attend.
As this is a fantastic opportunity for the tMP band to perform in front of a ‘home’ crowd we would have to make a serious effort to perform to the best of our ability and, as usual, with limited rehearsal times. Therefore we are asking for members who are prepared to sacrifice a ‘few’ beers until after our performances! Perhaps we should be looking for a tMP Temperance Band!
I know this is a tall order, but the tMP team feel strongly that ‘alcohol’ consumption would not only spoil a fantastic opportunity but also jeopardise the chances of performing at other big events. It would also give out the wrong message to parents and guardians of our younger members that may like to play with the band.
So, have a serious think about it and if you are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice, I’m sure we can accommodate you in this unique opportunity.
Here are a few details for the weekend which may help you make a decision. (performance times taken from last year)
Saturday 30th October:
Fourth Section - 9.00 a.m. start
Third Section - 2.00 p.m. start - expected to finish about 8.00 p.m.
First Section - 10.00 a.m. start
tMP Rehearsal - time and venue to be announced but will definitely happen!
tMP Band perform in the Ballroom for about an hour or so - early evening (probably about 7.00 - 7.30 p.m. start)
Sunday 31st October
Second Section - 9.00 a.m. start
Championship Section - 10.00 a.m. start
tMP Rehearsal - time and venue to be announced but again will definitely happen!
tMP Band to perform (15-20 minutes) before the announcement of results
Could I please ask you to keep this thread solely for posting your availability.

how will the Bb cornet players (not that i need 2 know) know what seat they are sitting in? i presume the 1st rehearsal will be to sort out positions? or is it a pre-decided thing?

Anyone else going to commit themselves to play in the tMP Band next weekend?
We have 45 members so far, but to balance the sections we could do with two more BBb Bass players and maybe another couple of Solo Cornet players.
Although this isn't a dead-line for volunteers, it would assist me in choosing suitable music for the concert programmes if you commit this weekend.
Any offers!

Need to keep this announcement at the top of the pile - so here it is again.
Anyone else going to commit themselves to play in the tMP Band next weekend?
We have 45 members so far, but to balance the sections we need the following players:
2 x BBb Bass players
1 x Bass Trombone
2 x Solo Cornets (particularly Saturday)
Although this isn't a dead-line for volunteers, it would assist me in choosing suitable music for the concert programmes if you commit this weekend.
Any offers!

Might have to pull out, as can't get bass to Pontins (Timbloke's car is too small, and I'm not going from Sheffield to Prestatyn on the train with a bass).
Daniel
Due to having a rehearsal on Sunday cancelled I am now going to be able to go for Sat and Sun so will be able to take your bass if you want.
The bad news is that as I wasn't planning to stay Saturday night I haven't booked anywhere to sleep and so will have to sleep in the car unless anyone has a spare bit of floor in their chalet.

Roger
If you're still short of BBb basses I could get hold of one to play although I do prefer playing EEb

If you're still short of BBb basses I could get hold of one to play although I do prefer playing EEbMuch appreciated Hilary. :tup But we haven't got as many Eb's as we first thought, so could you stay with your preferred choice of Eb Bass please. We do still need another BBb Bass but I'm hoping to recruit on the day!!!
Regarding accommodation, one of our players managed to book a chalet today! so there is still space available. But I would imagine that there'll be plenty of 'free' floor space to rent. (for the price of a couple of beers no doubt!)

Hmmm, don't know whether i'll have time to play with tMP i'm afraid. I think it's going to be time clashing with Ransomes, and as it's my first contest with them I want to play my best.
Sorry guys, was looking forward to it! :-(
Hope you all have fun, and I hope to meet some tMPers up at Pontins at the weekend.
Ciao for now! ;)
