I seem to remember someone making a comment about there being loads of midlands/yorkshire bands...thought it might be interesting to find out.

Where is your band?

Interesting poll!

..but being classified as 'other' hurts

What's wrong with 'offshore' or 'what's income tax?'?

I'm 'other' obviously, just voted

...or am I being a complete dipstick and you're asking what region we play in :?:

I had assumed it was the geographical area, as my Salvation Army band is obviously not affiliated to any region. Hence I still marked the L & SC box.

Of course this is all rendered pointless by lots of people from the same band all voting for their band! :D

Perhaps it should be "Which region do you come from?"

We are based in Stanley Co Durham.

You have to remember that the calendars are permanently set to 1936 up there. It like a Geordie Version of last of the summer wine.

My band is based in Yorkshire but we compete in the North of England region, along with all other bands from North Yorks, the City of York and the East Riding.

The 'Yorkshire Region' is really a misnomer but I don't suppose they'll ever change the name (to become the 'West and South Yorkshire Region') which would sound just a little bit parochial.

Thinks: Brighouse and Rastrick - champions of West and South Yorkshire ...

It sometimes creates problems - I once had to explain to a TV producer how two Yorkshire-based bands could both claim to be regional champions, and got into a big mess. :?

Cheers

We're in Yorkshire. Although I have been with bands in the North East, Yorkshire and the Midlands. I used to travel from the North East to Yorkshire and then from Yorskshire to the Midlands on a train, never again!! For 19 I think I've done a canny bit of traveling already!

That was a right BOC thing to say!!!

I'm one of the Straightmute gang and yup, it is confusing! But I also play in an unregistered band in Yorkshire (the West Riding bit) so I'm utterly bamboozled....

I voted North as that's where Harrogate compete!

My band is in Northampton, which should perhaps be called Middlehampton as its not in the North at all. In fact we're in the East Midlands, so perhaps we should be Easthampton or even Eastmiddlehampton or perhaps even Notsonorthbutmorenorththansouthampton. (I need to go and lie down)!!

Well I thought I'd keep you company Simon as nobody from this area has posted.

Wem Jubilee Band rehearse at the Thomas Adams School in Wem, North Shropshire (in our own band room) on a Friday night (sorry couldn't resist the free publicity).

We have only 5 players who live in Wem and the rest travel a reasonable distance to play in the band. Me personally, I travel 22 miles each way and reckon this is dedication.

We also got promoted to the 3rd Section as of January, and compete in the Midlands Areas.

So there you have it, thats us!!!!!

Mr Smiler, I think it was quite amiss of you not to point out that we in Northamptonshire are at the Southern limit of the East midlands. Indeed some of my band even live in neighbouring towns classed as Southern England. Isn't life complicated. :?

May I cast a vote for us soft shandy drinking southerners based in Plimuff , namely Soundhouse Brass.
I must be honest and admit we do have few Northerners in the band , although as a condition of membership we do ask them to temper some of their more rougher habits!

We're based on the former RAF Quedgeley site in Quedgeley, Gloucester.
Great bandroom, plus a seperate library room, large store room, band lounge and a commitee room. Unfortunately, no bar, we have to go down the road to the 'The Weavers' for a pint or two...three...four.
Good location too, just off Jun. 12 of the M5.

We're probably one of the most northern midlands bands as we rehearse in Coal Aston which is the first village south of Sheffield but is in Derbyshire so counts as Midlands. Was shocked to to see at the area a band from Rushden (South Northamptonshire) which is near my home town of Bedford, and the bu****s beat us!

We're based in the village of Worsborough Bridge (pronounce Wuzbrer Bridge) just South of Barnsley. I tell thee. It's reet good, apart from the bandroom which is just a glorified outhouse next t' football pitch. Turn up and late and you have a mission to climb over the cases to get to the band. There's room for a band, percussion, conductor, music cabinets, cases and 1 spectator (usually the librarian), everyone else has to stand outside int cold.

Our location may become more familiar to some when I mention that the band was formerly Barrow Colliery Band.
