explain please. it had better not be quantum mechanics!
it follows on from that great theorem
1+1 = 2, except for very large values of 1
Not sure how many Manx concert brassers are on here, but i think there's quite a few!

Welcome on board NIKI HORNBLOWER :tup
The Wem Band Contingent now totals 15.
And for Neil's benefit:
That's 14 + 1 = 15 (not 1 or a large value of 1 OK!)
I think we've got this one in the bag - unless you know different :dunno
Since we're back on topic and playing games with numbers:-
UK population - 60,000,000
Isle of Man Population - 80,000 (tops)
UK/IOM - 60M/80K = 750
Therefore 1 Manx bandperson is equivalent to 750 UK bandspeople (where 1 may or may not be bigger than 750 and diversity is respected).
Allow 8 MCB players as members of the forum (I can't be bothered to count) and apply the formula, MCB therefore really have 6000 members on tMp.com
MCB must therefore be nominated and win hands down and claim our virtual prize (divided by 750 obviously) :tup

Following Frisp's logic, I don't know what the population of Oman is, but I think Flashbarry might be in with a shout :!:
i live in my own little world...
youre all doomed :P
Theres a few members from my band i think(five rivers aka backworth) and a few from dunston too

Things are certainly different on planet Frisp......

They certainly are-there are no curmudgeonly old folk picking on you for simple logic....
....added to that, euphonium players are very tolerant; you can pogo madly in the disco to the strains of Resurgam, Celestial Prospect, Procession to the Minster (very slow pogo that one) or any tune you fancy; the lakes are filled with Guinness while the streams run wild with gin; the limerick is the pinnacle of artistic endeavour etc. etc.
I need to phone Judith Chalmers to get Planet Frisp on Wish You Were Here :!:

Since Cornet Girl plays cornet, flugel, flute, violin, viola and percussion (and possibly other instruments unknown to me) she surely constitutes some sort of One Man Band. Since, by definition, a One Man Band can only include one person*, she must therefore constitute 100% of its membership, and therefore claims my nomination for the band with the highest percentage membership of tMP.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you Cornet Girl.
Thank you.
D
*I use the word Man in accordance with it's broadest generic meaning.
When did it become a percentage game?
Looks like Wem is going to win this one!!!
Nicely put Heather,
We do try and put up some competition, and if its within our grasp, LOOK OUT!!

Anyone may be able to hit a percussion instrument, but as for making music out of it - no way. Try playing the bass drum in Berlioz' Hungarian march: 3 strokes, getting progressively louder and more intense: start too loud and you've got nowhere to go, misjudge any of them and the whole effect is lost.
Many's the time I've come away from a concert (band or orchestra) where the lasting impression has been left by some well-played percussion.

I know what you mean. For some obscure reason, Northumberland Schools have a habit of producing the most amazingly talented percussionists. Repeatedly. Some of the concerts i used to play were amazing, the percussion was often spine-tinglingly good.
My County Jazz Orch did a drum workshop once with Steve Ferrone (of The Average White Band Fame) and there were 3 drummers (all U-16), all with full kit doing a trio! it wasn't just random hitting, but actually properly scored music and was breathtaking!
If you go to National Concert Band Festival Youth Big Band section, you'll more often than not find that the person picking up the most outstanding player award will be..... "Northumberland's Drummer!!"
While bad percussion is bad, it is hard to rival good percussion for spine tinglingness.
I play tenor horn, piano, violin, guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, organ, little bit of kit, mellophone, french horn, bamboo pipes, ocarina, jaw harp, recorder, tin whistle, bodhrun and live in my own little world...
