Everyone looking forward to blackpool those who are going? Anyone any thoughts and predictions? Heres the bands that strike me as ones that should do well:
Shield: Sellers and CWS Glasgow
Cup: Wingates and Hepworth
Trophy: Pennine and Haydock
These contests are dead hard to call though, as theres shed-loads of good bands. Cracking pieces for the weekend anyway. I may actually listen to more than I managed last year! Lets hope the Galleon doesn't tempt me away! :guiness

How does a band go about getting an invite to this event? I ask because our contest secretary tells me that we "can't get one", despite being an interested Championship section band who were reasonable enough to get to the Championship Finals a couple of years ago; there are a lot of 1st section bands in that list that Roger's posted.
Dave
my threepennnys worth:
shield:
CWS, flowers and sellers
cup:
hepworth, pem and wingates
trophy:
Pennine, Haydock and Dalmellington

Aidans predictions are not far off mine, he's just put in an extra band for safety! Thats cheating!
:? Managed to put my ugly mug on my profile... dunno if that was a wise decision!

Not safe for me to comment on that Darth Tuba, but I can say "Thanks" for ensuring it matches the 90*90 pixel size... :tup

If the latest rankings in 4barsrest can be taken as any guide the results could be as follows:-
Grand Shield
1st - Sellers
2nd - Ransome
3rd - CWS Glasgow
4th - Flowers
Senior Cup
1st - Rothwell
2nd - BTM
3rd - Camborne
4th - Redbridge
Senior Trophy
1st - Haydock
2nd - Unison Kinneil
3rd - Northop
4th - Thomas Coaches
Don't think it'll end up exactly like that but I am sure we'll all have a damn fine weekend any way.
Jim Buchanan - the smaller of the Bb basses with Kinneil
I suppose the method of applying to join the Spring Festival and get an invite to the Senior Trophy would be to go through the Open Championship organisation, Martin Mortimer heads that up. I'm racking my brain to try and remember the name of the guy who is the contest controller (he also does Pontins). I'm sure there will be a long waiting list but with the promotion relegation system in place most bands will get their turn.

Hi,
You're dead right Frank Hodges is the man you need to contact. He also does the Pontins contest.

I'm not qualified to make predictions about the results.
However, I hope that you will all visit the World of Brass trade stand where we will have approx. 300 brass band titles on display. Look out for 5 new releases on the SP&S, Doyen and Egon labels!

Before we make predictions we should be aware of which particular deaf people are being shut in boxes for the duration. Even then we will still be whistling in the dark! Does anybody know who the adjudicators are for the weeekend?
Darth_Tuba
22.04.2003, 22:36
How cynical and narrow minded of you! If you were any expert on the subject you would know that the problem of deafness in adjudicators was solved long ago by the inclusion of sound proof boxes to make it all fair!
It is a good point though. With the selections of modern pieces like Tallis and Paganini, will they pick young fresh adjudicators or will it be the usual suspects? Methinks the latter more likely, after Nick and Bob Childs last year they may want to go back to some oldies. All will be revealed I'm sure.

I'm loving some of the predictions for the Cup, come on Hepworth! Can't wait to go, should be lots of fun. Chris, you can keep your eye on Lee while I'm playing. I know when I come back he's going to be plastered!! I had a dream last night we were drawn first, hope it doesn't come true! I had a dream either before the Masters or Open about the draw when I was at Frickley and we got the draw that was in my dream!!!

Hmmmm... predictions don't make prizes Jayne! Now I've got to think of something good to write 'cause Jayne is forcing me to write a reply via msn! :?
Why is it my job to look after your boyfriend all of a sudden anyway? Surely it would be sensible to let some one who isn't going to be poo-faced do it? Like Warder for example!
As for the draw... mystic Jayne has spoken! I'm off to Ladbrookes to put a bet on now....
SoloBaritone
24.04.2003, 12:15
I'm not forcing you! You well wanted to reply to me cos it was such a good post! Last time Lee was in the bar with Neil Samuel and they lied about him coming to listen to me play!! They can't be trusted!!!!! Warder's not a good option after he drunkenly announced his love for me last year, Lee wasn't over impressed!
If only predications made prizes, at least people think we're in the running. I hope everyone comes to listen to us. We've got an open rehersal on Sunday at 6pm in Hepworth if anyone is interested.
Jayne
thats a point.. this forum is missing mr Erder...

OK, to answer my earlier question
Thornton's Brass pulled out of the Senior Cup and Kingdom Brass were promoted from the Senior Trophy to replacde them
Nottingham City Transport were invited to the Senior Trophy to replace Kingdom Brass
Longridge were invited to the Trophy to replace Parc and Dare who were the other band who dropped out.

Good Luck for the sheild Rich. Will see you in the bar afterwards.
Me, in a bar. What kind of bandsman do you think I am.
Either the Stanley Arms or the galleon I think will be the preferred watering holes of the Frickley Mob.
See you Saturday

Will see you there then

29.04.2003, 20:29
I'll be there, flitting between halls and bar, though with three good pieces to choose from it might be a cheap day for a change.
Also at Buxton Contest on Sunday 4th then Glossop Band Club on Sunday night. Wow - some weekend - a good job Monday is a Bank Holiday.
Cheers

Hope to see you this year Dave after we play, last year we were there as they said to make the numbers up??????
Hope we can do something right this year.
G.
George, I would be very surprised if someone did actually say that to you!!!
Were you not Section 1 National Champions last year???
Wouldn't it be nice if our bands could spring a few surprises on Saturday??
Good Luck......but not as much as us!!!
George Fairhurst
30.04.2003, 11:07
That's right Heather but only at the area and Senior Trophy winners but that was last year and you know what they say.
You are only as good as your last result.
Still we will give it our best, just hope we play better than we did at the area.
Can't believe we still dont know the adjudicators! anyone any ideas?
