Know any of the breakdown of prizes at all?

Dolly

All i really Know is that Poynton Youth were 2nd in both Music and entertainment also taking best soloist - Lizi Sawyer, Best Soprano, Best Basses and best deportment.

Congratulations to Beaumoris, we were equal on points but you took it with more music points well done, i'm sure it was deserved although since we were last didnt get chance to listen to anyone else.

Well done to all! :D Do you have any news at all on Enderby. We had to leave early to catch Vickitorious in contest at NEMBBA! Wow, 2 contests in 1 day! :D :?

As far as I can remember i dont think they were placed in either music or entertainment (top 6 were placed in both) though i appologise if im wrong it was a bit of a blur to be honest.

Rochdale Youth Band were placed 1st in entertainment and 5th in music, which makes them 3rd overall :?: well done to Beaumaris and the other prize winners! 8)

By my reckoning overall top three were

1) Beaumoris Youth
2) Poynton Youth

:( Musically, wouldn't surprise me, though I thought they may do well on the entertainment side, especially the novalty item. :( Ta anyway. No doubt will find out more at practice tomorrow. I've been home since 5pm having been to Blackpool contest and the NEMBBA contest and I bet Enderby are still only about half way home on the coach! What time did it all end?

Ha! they'll definitely still be on the bus then. They always take hours and have a "comfort break" on the way back. Sooooooooooooo glad I went by car. :D

Once again, well done to all the winners. :D

Just got back, phew!
Well done to all bands, and especially Youth Brass 2000 who I had a brill weekend with, cheers guys!
YB2K came 4th in Entertainment and 3rd in Music, and also won best march and best back row, an absolutely brill result considering it was such a young band this year! Keep it up guys, and see you soon!

Worked out we (YB2K) came 4th overall 2 points behind Rochdale, so no shame in that! Amazing that the top 2 bands tied on points and were decided on a technicality... All very tense and exciting!

And yes, Enderby came nowhere and won nothing, and after they came up to us last year saying "and where did YOU come then?" when we'd actually been placed, I can't say I'm particularly upset by the fact!

Anyway, that was the end of my 4 years at YB2K and it weren't a half bad ending! :D

oh yeah, and nice to see icklesop again, and many thanks to Mr Seedhouse for helping us out for the weekend, and allowing himself to be dragged into the deadly trap of giving his phone number to our comittee!

Cheers. Just try and remember a previous thread when I pointed we out that we're not all alike at Enderby  In fact, have been trying to get out for some time, but just find a slot for a good little drummer to fit in round here. :( And well done on your result. :)

ah i know you're not all like that... just the loud ones! And hey, if you can get to Wilbarston every weekend, Chris has a percussion obsession so he'd be delighted!!!

Congratulations to every player who took part in the contest. A very well run event this year, a great standard of playing and a brilliant weekend for YB2K. Thanks to Alex (Seedhouse) for stepping in and helping out and hello to anyone else who we met over the weekend

Glad that's settled then! Wilbarston is a bit of a long way but worth thinking about. There is one drawback though, Vicki plays with Hathern n a Sunday, so if hubby brings Adam to Wilbarston, who's gonna cook my dinner for when I get back?  Seriously though, maybe after the area would be the best time to pop in for a "no strings attached" visit? Can you give me any more details on how many you already have and how the "workload" is distributed? Perhaps on MSN?

Cheers Lynchie and Steve, was happy to help out and had a great time over the weekend.
Am happy to help out if needs be in the future (have I just doomed myself?)
Good luck for the future you two.

Nice to see IckleSop too!

was it just me or did anyone else think the "Most potential" award was just SLIGHTLY patronising?

Dolly
19.02.2004, 13:12
More of a 'I've placed you last and this is a vain attempt to make myself feel better' award?

Aidan
20.02.2004, 12:37
kind of like the best soloist award that they always gave to the loosing band in the final of the old BBC Radio 2 Youth Brass Band Championships ;) :)

Aidan

haha well if it was over a couple of years ago, i don't think there was a youth soloist around that would have come close to geoghagey baby :D

Steve
23.02.2004, 12:29
Sorry, i have to disagree. Matt Gee was awesome that night and every other night he decides to pick up his trombone. More than a match for any player.

i know, i was there, just my opinion :P

Sellers_Bird
28.02.2004, 17:06
i know u dont mean any harm guys but that "most potential" award was a tribute to a close friend and a parent of one of the people in Rochdale Youth Band who died suddenly last year.

Dolly
28.02.2004, 19:07
I'm not dissin the award but they made it patronising by turning it into a consolation prize. Surely the band with most potential is in the top 5 or so and has the most potential to win next year etc etc

Aidan
29.02.2004, 08:14
It's normally just given to the youngest band isnt it...

Dolly
29.02.2004, 08:25
How can they give it to the youngest band when he cant see how old they are. Isnt it judged on music?

Aidan
01.03.2004, 20:14
depends which contest you are on about :)
is it closed adudication at action research...?
from personal experience i was on about the music for youth festival at the RFH.

Dolly
01.03.2004, 21:15
Well music is judged on closed, entertainment on open obviously. But the most potential is given based on music and by the music adjudicator

Aidan
01.03.2004, 21:56
righto :tup

lynchie
02.03.2004, 07:47
i think they just gave it to the band that came last to avoid tears on the coach...

Dolly
02.03.2004, 08:51
Exactly well doesnt that defeat the object

don't think it is given to the band who could win it next year... i may be wrong :P but thats why i assumed it was given by an open adjudication, as it always seems to go to the primary school bands etc.. it would always go the youngest band, as obviously they would have more potential to acheive better, being younger!

G'wan nadia!!!

Kids need encouragement not disappointment. so what if it's given to make people feel better or so you say. at the end of the day it's still an award given to people who are young and need encouragement.

But i guess you're all far too good players to realise this.

Hope your bands don't win it in the future since you're obviously too good for a patronising award like that.

Aidan
02.03.2004, 11:24
haha

lynchie
02.03.2004, 13:09
so what about the band that came 2nd last? they go home with less than the band that they played better than? Let's face it, not everyone can win, and we don't have to give a prize to everyone that turns up, no matter what age they are! We had years where we went and didn't win anything, but we got over it, just told the kids we'd be back next year, playing better and winning everything!

And they already give a prize to the youngest player at blackpool, so why would they need one for the youngest band as well?

Aidan
03.03.2004, 13:24
i wasnt talking about blackpool :P im not going into all the faults with that contest again ;);) :P best off asking richard evans or someone else in the know what the situation is with youth events.

The Peter Chrimes Cup is an award in memory of a friend of mine who died tragically and very suddenly last year. His favourite contest was the youth entertainments, and his daughter still plays for Rochdale Youth Band. The award is not given to the band who come last, and is awarded by the entertainment judge who takes into consideration the bands age, their appearance, their musical performance and how well they generally present themselves.

I understand it may seem patronising... but if you knew the man that Peter was, it's actually quite a beautiful award.
