Hi All
With the upcoming round of area competitions just around the corner - I've been contacted by several members who have told me that many of you at theMouthPiece.com have plans to meet up with one another during these next few weeks...
Don't forget to drop a note here to tell us your story... we'd all be delighted to hear your 'Meeting Up' tale!!.. from beer 'n ale stories, surprise result stories through to pathetic adjudication stories and ..."my gosh, I didn't expect him/her to look like that" or ... "you look nothing like your avatar you know!!"
How's about a theMouthPiece.com e-Beer for the most interesting story then eh???
I'm sure there are some interesting threads to come... :D
John

Will anyone dare come to the NE area contest. it doesnt seem to be a popular venue to visit. But i can guarantee a fantastic beer up in the pubs in the square opposite.
Of course, some of us already have.... :D
If anybody fancies meeting up at Blackpool, let me know. :)

Too right. When we won in 2000 I left my phone in the Boot and Shoe. Went back there on the Monday to collect the phone and had no recollection of a previous visit...
Pics on the website, of course.

Having experienced both the Northern and Midland Areas as a player, i can categorically declare the Midlands Area as being absolutely pathetic in comparison to the Dolphin Centre.
FIrstly the venues, Burton Town Hall is a horrible place and if there was a fire during the contest, a large proportion of the UKs bands would wiped out, trapped inside. And its GOT NO BAR!!!!
Dolphin Centre, has a swimming pool (when i was younger early draw meant time for a swiming session before results, freeing my dad up for more important duties. in the bar.) IT HAS A BAR       good bar atmosphere too.
Burton has got a lot of pubs in the locality and a pub crawlesque map is supplied, but to be fair, they are all pokey little dives full of locals who dont quite understand whats hit them. It also means that all the bands become dispersed.
Darlo though has a few good pubs in close proximity and an internal bar. while the beer isnt as good as burton, the band's remain quite well interspersed. any pub in which you find buckshot in your Game Pie must be good!
I really hope i get up to darlington this year (pull a sickie at work) cos it has a lot more atmosphere and general banter than burton. i think the fact there are less bands helps this.
just my personal view and opinions.
anyone wishing to buy me a pint at burton is welcome to. i will be loud, tall, drunk and oozing studentness. i will also be rambling incomprehensibly in geordie!

Not only has it got no bar, The local pubs are so small that you are lucky if you can get a quintet in them

Well we found a nice one last year! I agree it would be much better with a bar. What happened to the beer tent they used to put up?? That was not bad although expensive. At least it was close and not on a slope like when they held it at Notts uni a few years back! I seem to recall some memories of being locked in a port-a-loo after drinking triples in that beer tent (not to be repeated again EVER)!

OK so Darlington is better. Right then, who's going and when??? I'll be there most of Saturday (holding the door open as you go on stage, or moving percussion) and Sunday afternoon (conducting Prague).
Do say 'hello David you look thirsty - let me buy you a drink'.
Don't say 'we want the timps on the left and the bells on the right, and make it snappy'.

Yes it has! We went to Leicester contest last year.... that too has NO BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not good not good at all....
As for Burton, I wonder if the organisers could have a word with Coors Brewers (formerly Bass) and hire out a function room in the Bass museum? The facilities there are smallish rooms, but decent cheapish beer....
Just a thought from one of their ex-employees!

I saw Roger, but didn't think it was a good idea to introduce myself whilst he was conducting up on the stage!

Would have loved to have met a few more people, but it's a bit difficult when you don't know what you all look like!
But hey, it'll soon be tMP concert will it not, or is the lack of info about it a bad sign?!? (I'm trying my best to find out more!!!)

Hi Stephen2001
You're spot on with tMP event - apologies for the lack of info, we've been busy getting ourselves together as an organising team - what with the area's and all that it's been quite difficult but we have had our 1st meeting.
Look out for an update announcement very soon... big things afoot... :D

Our rep player is called Sharon :x
I knew I should have worn the ninja gear... you'll have seen me on fourth man down sans headgear

So after all that excitement - who's coming to Darlo next weekend? I expect to see BoozyBassTrom, obviously, and I'll be there on the Saturday listening and being generally not at all useful as well as Pragueing my way through Sunday!
If you see a mad brunette trying to be helpful on the Saturday, remove me from the area instantly and buy me a drink - we'll leave Straightmute to the helpful jobs!
