So if this you just predicting the Scottish next year? Interesting. Do you do this every year?

I've only been doing this since August but I'll carry on as long as people are interested in the lively debate it provokes.

I started doing it because I was always curious going into contests what odds a bookmaker would offer our band.

As long as people find it entertaining and enlightening, i'll soldier on.

...Shotts finished in second place at this contest, beat by only 1 point and even the adjudicators confirmed it was a close call...so how can anyone declare that Nitten were clear favourites? apologies but this was a closely run contest with Nitten almost beaten by a second section band - who also claimed best cornet may I add...

To be fair i think this is all just intended as a bit of fun, but in the interests of being picky, i suppose the term favourites would have been given to them prior to the contest based on their grading rather than after any performance that was given by any band, therefore this would mean that they were "clear favourities" in someones opinion and they happened to win!

I wouldnt read too much into any result that a band has had prior to the scottish to be fair because anything can happen and i can vouch for that from personal experience.

On a side, my band came fifth in fife earlier in the year beaten only by the 4 championship section bands there by single points (and we are a 3rd section band by the way) but still we are ranked as second favourites. Again like I say none of it matters because all that counts is the perfromance on the day.

Good luck to all the bands competing!

Cheers
Stuart

Congrats on a fine result but it doesn't change my opinion that Newtongrange were the clear favorites going in to the contest. Betting odds can never be retrospective of course.

Hi Paddy,

In response to your latest odds for the second section bands snippets from
around the area would suggest a rethink as to the generousity of your
odds on one or two of the contestants from North and South Lanarkshire.

I hear that Coalburn are making great headway with the piece, and that Shotts have strengthened significantly around Trombone,Baritone,Euphonium and Cornet sections,
and following on from second and third places at the Borders contest, both are up for the challenge.

So given Coalburns win last year, and a good finish for both bands at the end of the
year,i reckon the odds on Shotts to be around the 6/1 mark and Coalburn around
7/2. Either way i just hate the idea of you offering such generous odds and losing
all of that cyber space money.

Good luck to all competing bands, especially in this section which looks like going right to the wire.

Virtual tenner on Langholm...by all accounts they are playing very well

Got 7th at the Borders contest and played very well. I was adjudicating entertainment that day and was significantly surprised and impressed by them.

also will have a virtual tenner on them!! (if I was a gambling man, which being a good Salvationist I am not!)

Is virtual gambling against SA rules do you think????

Is virtual gambling against SA rules do you think????

I suppose it's a bit like drinking non-alchoholic beers! How did you manage to secure Alan Ramsay's playing services? (He has to travel a fair bit to Fife).

Allan wanted to play the piece and we had a vacancy! He came and did a workshop and was keen to play. Delighted to have his services!!
