Must say i have been with the band for just over 2 months, and i feel welcomed and very much at home there.

Went to help out this band over the weekend and had a great time.
Would recommend any players in the area to go down and have a blow if they are looking to change bands - I'd join tomorrow if I didn't live 85 miles away!
They are a very sociable bunch and have 2 locals - one that is dirt cheap and the other with late night opening and free sandwiches - you don't need anything more from a band!
Special thanks to Mic for the chips and compliments and Moira and Pete for offering accomodation over the weekend and making me feel so welcome :-)

Front Row Cornet (Principal Chair may be considered for the right candidate)
2nd Trombone

Here at Drighlington, we are on the hunt to complete our lineup in time for the Pontins 1st Section Contest and for a very exciting year in 2009.
Firstly, the band are very pleased to announce the appointment of our new Solo Horn player (details to follow).
Due to a small, voluntary, re-shuffle in our ranks, the band are now looking for the last 3 players to complete our line-up.
2nd Euphonium (The Solo chair will be considered for the right applicant)
2nd Trombone
Percussion (especially a Kit player)
The 2nd Euphonium chair has arisen due to the very kind offer, from both of our Euphonium players, to make that dreaded move onto Bass to complete a bench for which there appears to be a massive shortage of players. It has been decided to accept the offer of our current 2nd Euphonium player, with the feeling that a Euphonium player will be easier to find in the current climate.
Our sincere thanks for the level of commitment, and obvious dedication to the band, goes to Robyn for making the move from Euph to Eb Bass, and everyone on the Euph/Bari bench wish you all the best down in the Bassment :)
We would like to emphasise that, here at Drighlington, we have a good relationship over the years with the various local Universities (Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield etc) and that students are more than welcome to apply, with a full understanding from the band of the commitments and challenges that University brings.
If you ever need a hand on concerts until you fill the vacancy let me know.

The last few weeks have seen a few changes around the band at Drighlington and we are pleased to announce 3 new signings to the band in time for our Pontins 1st Section challenge.
On Front row, we are pleased to welcome back to the band Joe Marsden. Joe is currently studying at Leeds University and helped us out at the Buxton Contest earlier in the year, Joe has now formally signed for the band reuniting with our Front Row Team officially.
On Solo Horn we are pleased to welcome Tracey Marsh, who originally helped out over the summer to cover for our 2nd Horn while he was recovering from an operation. Tracey is a former member of the West Yorkshire Police Band.
Finally, for now, following Robyn's kind gesture to move to fill our Eb Bass vacancy, we are very pleased to welcome back to the Drighlington family, Jolyon Stead on Euphonium. Jolyon first learnt to play with the Drighlington Youth Band and over the years has enjoyed many contest successes with both the Drighlington Youth Band and in more recent years Pennine Brass. Jolyon has very kindly agreed to sign for us in time for Pontins despite his busy and stressful times involved with the organisational team at Pennine.
Details of our 2nd Trombone signing are to be announced in the very near future.
We are still looking for the following..
Percussion (Especially Kit)
Bb Bass

We are particularly seeking a kit/all round player to accompany our experienced resident Tuned/All round players.
We would warmly welcome anyone who is interested, and of a reasonable standard, even if only with the view for playing at the Areas with no expectations or pressure for commitment post-Contest (though we do hope you would feel at home enough with us to stay ;) ).

So the areas have now been and gone here in Yorkshire and after an excellent result for the band, coming 3rd in the First Section (promotion back to the Championship currently pending confirmation), we are now looking to complete our full time line-up.
We currently have vacancies for Back Row cornet and Percussion (especially Kit).. The back row cornet vacancies (x2) are due to retirement and long term illness which occurred just prior to the Areas, a special vote of thanks goes out to Ian Hardcastle who stepped in at the last minute to assist with the Areas.
In the coming weeks we will also be seeking the assistance of a Solo Trombone player, as our long standing Principal, Ian Clough, will be taking an extended sabbatical for health reasons. If anyone is able to help the band out over the next 6 months or so (no full time commitment expected) please do get in touch.

Drighlington Band are currently seeking a Bb Bass player to complete our line-up for the Yorkshire Areas - Championship Section on March 7th. This is a temporary requirement at the moment as one of our regular Bb Basses has a broken elbow and is unable to play.
Under the leadership of our new MD Jim Davies we are newly promoted back into the Championship Section for 2010 and, having actively recruited a number of top quality players in the last year, we are keen to stay there. We rehearse Tuesday and Thursday nights from 8pm and are based just 2 minutes drive from J27 between Bradford and Leeds.
An instrument is available and transport from various regions in the North including Weatherby, Wakefield, and as far west as the Oldham/Stockport areas could possibly be arranged.
If you can assist or know of anyone who may be able to help please contact me on 07701 098988 ASAP (if I don't answer please do leave contact details on my voice mail as I may be in meetings or rehearsal).

Over the last few months the Drighlington Band have very sadly had to say farewell (but not goodbye) to a number of players for reasons of ill health, work pressures and family commitments.. We would like to emphasise that none of the vacancies are due to players moving to other bands, all players are taking sabbaticals from playing for the foreseeable future, with the exception of Robin Morgan who has left us to take up his conducting career again with Meltham & Meltham Mills.
We wish to extend our grateful thanks to all of the players for their friendship, time and dedication (in some cases whilst working under extreme pressures from other aspects of life) and wish all the very best for the future. You are all missed greatly.
Because of this we currently have the following vacancies..
Principal Cornet
Front Row Cornet
Repiano
Back Row Cornet
Solo Baritone
Bb/Eb Bass
If you would like the opportunity to join a forward thinking, and hard working Yorkshire Championship Section band under the leadership of Jim Davies, a highly respected musician (former Principal of both Cory's and Brighouse & Rastrick) and inspiring conductor then please do get in touch in the strictest confidence using the details below.
Meanwhile, over the summer, we will continuing our now annual "Open House" rehearsals, while Jim is on holiday, under the leadership of Peter Kitson who brings an enormous wealth of band training and leadership skills to further build on the bands progress in the Championship Section. If you are at a loose end on a Monday or Thursday evening and fancy a blow come on down!

Is it back to Monday and Thursday then? Thought it had been Tuesday and Thursday?
My band is taking a sabbatical through some of August so I may pop over to cover that baritone seat :-)
