Matthew Walker is currently researching the brass bands of Greater Manchester, collating a brief history and major achievements of every past and present band and a photograph where available. Currently he has completed the Bolton area, and published the book - The History of Farnworth and Walkden Band - which can be found at http://www.lulu.com/content/1348190.

He is now starting on the Bury and Rossendale areas, Bury is particularly very lacking in information and anything would be a great help. He would be grateful for information on the other areas, as he will be tackling these in the future e.g. Stockport, Trafford, Manchester, Salford, Rochdale, Tameside and Wigan.

Matthew can be contacted via Matthew.walker@uuplc.co.uk or telephone 01204 465321.

Hello Matt,

I would hope that your next epic will be free from "bloopers" and that most of your facts are correct. (Joke)

What about Irwell Forge Band, or Bury Silver? I was in the former for a long long time and occasional vistitor to the latter whenever a dep was needed. But what information would you require about these bands?

You could just ask me at the next rehearsal eh?
