Start not good or together, band unsettled into semiquavers, but soon settle in. Cornets are suffering intonation problems.

Good horn melody with some nice accompaniment. Again bad tuning is evident in ensemble. Cornets rushing into slow movement, but they recover well. Good basses and middle ensemble. Solo Cornet sound nervous and the odd blip detracts.

Euph melody is good, but muted cornets are too loud. Good overall sounds are heard, nice Flugel sound - well done. Euph suffers intonation problems, but has a really nice sound.

Good Basses and percussion into Allegro. Horns and Baritones play well together, and the band is now feeling comfortable with some really good playing. Nice soprano and woodblock playing, good shock notes to ending, excellent rall and a good full sound heard. Excellent dynamics and Good playing to end - well done Mr. Timp.

Great to see Pontypool rebuilding for the future with several young players dotted around the stand... and always great to see Adrian Harries still at it... :)

We have offered our opinion of the bands performance based on the music, and on what we hear; and not on the technicalities of notes and other musical markings in the score etc.

Please don't be offended if you don't agree with what we write. This will simply be a combination of a report of our opinions on how we felt the performance went on the day, and of what's happening at the contest.

Please feel free to add your comments and your scores based on what you heard but please remember to keep these constructive and within the spirit of tMP and our guidelines. :)

Pontypool Brass were conducted by Alun Hathaway not Colin Hogg. Alun stepped in at the last minute and the band would like to thank him greatly for this.

Thanks. I've edited the post to reflect this. I changed the programme when we were told at the time Sunday, but in the rush, didn't manage this thread.
