Allegro: Good full opening. Nicely balanced. The odd split in cornets detracts from the flow. Good horns at E. Unfortunately the tempo seems to have lapsed. F - Good dynamics levels, but maybe too loud for FF. G - H Tuning problems!

Untidy into Largehetto. Well done trombone, remember it's a solo so plenty of air through the instrument.

J Cornet suffers a few nerves to start, but soon settles into the flow. tuning again detracts. K - Nice flow to music, and beautifully balanced band. L - phrasing in cornet!.

M Good tempo - spot on! but no rhythm or pulse - shame. P Well done Sop and Percussion. Nice build into Q.

Hmmm... sorry but the dreaded tuning issues appear again, maybe overblowing the ff. Nice Horn and Flugel, Euph and cornet. Good close to movement.

Allegro: Cornets, more rhythm, music lacks pulse. T. well done percussion, muted cornets and horns intonation problems. Good dynamic into V. Cornet nice lyrical style, band is well balanced into X Baris and Euphs carry melody off in style. nice percussion sounds, and rhythm is back - thank you. Z tuning in cornets again distracts.

DS a little fast, concentrate right to the end! Excellent Coda and ending.
Well done to the young soloists.

We have offered our opinion of the bands performance based on the music, and on what we hear; and not on the technicalities of notes and other musical markings in the score etc.

Please don't be offended if you don't agree with what we write. This will simply be a combination of a report of our opinions on how we felt the performance went on the day, and of what's happening at the contest.

Please feel free to add your comments and your scores based on what you heard but please remember to keep these constructive and within the spirit of tMP and our guidelines. :)

Not quite right on your prediction, not a good day at the 'office' but still managed a fourth place, beating all other performances on Malvern Suite. Not bad for a band only 6 months old and so many youngsters. The reason we played Malvern Suite was because apart from Seasons it's the only music we have in the library. Your predictions were a bit wayward this year stick to listening and not trying to follow the score.

Think you should read what Di said " Please don't be offended if you don't agree with what we write". Its all a matter of personal opinion.

Quite so. Kudos to the tMP team for having the brass ones to spend the day writing their thoughts, publicly and in such an open fashion. Any exposure for any band should be welcomed. Well done John and team.

Am I not to have an opinion also? Are the mouthpiece team the ultimate and beyond criticism. Dear old Iwan Fox gives opinions but also takes flak as well. The Newbridge write up is not very informative!

OK OK, calm down... calm down.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion - but I don't criticise you for making it. My opinion may differ to yours, but that is fine. What gets peoples backs up is the fact that you criticise my opinion and what we do here on tMP. I have no problem with any flak that heads my way as a result of doing this informative news reporting - if I did, I wouldn't do it.

You didn't like what we said about your band I guess... c'est la vie.

It seems that what additionally happened is that you have come on here and criticised tMP for 'not getting it right', being quite sarcastic in the process, others have then defended what we do, and you don't like it. Dare I say that this is slight hypocrisy on your part. You are criticising first tMP, then those who criticise you - but you don't like it when you yourself are criticised!!

Slag away, I have no axe to grind please feel free to criticise me and tMP all you like, but as those before you have said, and as I point out in every single thread where a tMP news report appears; we provide this as an alternate opinion to that of the adjudicator, simple as. Yours would differ to mine, as would most other peoples in the audience, no need to criticise them for it though.

As for the Newbridge report apparently being... "not very informative..." sorry, but I am of the opinion that it says it all. You criticise me for not getting the results correct... got that one right on the nail though didn't I...??

Seems we did that for several positions through the day too!

Am I not to have an opinion also?
Of course not - what do you think tMP is - a forum provided free of charge for bandspeople to log on and air their views? Get real! ;-)

Seriously, of course you're allowed an opinion - as John and the rest of the team are - but you may want to think about how you express that opinion - the phrase "stick to listening and not trying to follow the score" is not very nice imo - by all means challenge the comments/opinions - but please do not be so rude when doing so.

You and your band, and every band there yesterday, by stepping on to that stage were putting themselves forward for criticism - not only from the men in the box, but from tMP and every single audience member.

Similarly, John and the team were putting themselves forward for, and in fact, welcome, criticism and comments - even 'flak' as you call it, but definitely not rudeness.
