Good opening spoilt with the odd split. Big fortissimo sounds from ensemble. Excellent walking bass lines, but not together with the Euph Bari melody. Euphoniums not in tune in solo work. Good Cornets and Trombone to close movement.

Horns and Baris suffering intonation problems, but Cornet and Euph play well together. Muted Soprano not in tune. Nice 'feel' from horns and basses which make the music flow.
Percussion not together with band or MD (try facing the front!) Big sounds from basses but again muted cornets suffer with tuning. Good use of dynamics and trombones play well. The quieter ensemble parts seemed to get lost and the band rock.
Nice Euph duet, and ensemble have settled down. Good use of dynamics but again muted cornets distract. Lovely build through crescendo to full ensemble, with a good control of dynamics from the MD.
Good Euph and Tambourine. Well done Horn. Excellent ensemble playing here. Cornets add to the music and build up. Again good use of dynamics through bass 'tune'. The band are well controlled by MD to thefinal bars.

A very good performance, but the dreaded tuning and intonation problems (particularly in muted instruments) detracted.

We have offered our opinion of the bands performance based on the music, and on what we hear; and not on the technicalities of notes and other musical markings in the score etc.

Please don't be offended if you don't agree with what we write. This will simply be a combination of a report of our opinions on how we felt the performance went on the day, and of what's happening at the contest.

Please feel free to add your comments and your scores based on what you heard but please remember to keep these constructive and within the spirit of tMP and our guidelines. :)
