Good opening with some solid sounds from the middle of the band. Excellent feel to the music and it all seems to be going fine. Great use of dynamics. Suspect tuning in horn and back row cornets. Soloist perform well throughout the movement. Pecussion add lots of pulse and excitement to the peformance. Good crescendo from band and all parts are heard.
Trombones not in tune with muted back row. General tuning throughout ensemble suffers. Good Euph and Cornet, both play with style and emotion. Excellent crescendo and timp work. Basses could be a lot stronger with moving lines through 'hymn tune section'. Euph suffers with intonation problems in high register. Tuning to close of movement is poor, especially against tubular bell.
Good bass and horn line to open final movement. Band is well balanced and has lots of rhythm, especially from percussion. This is sounding good although there are still one or two blips dotted about. I think the band can see the end in sight and the concentration has wondered a little. The band also lack stamia in the closing bars.

A very good performance by a relatively young band.

We have offered our opinion of the bands performance based on the music, and on what we hear; and not on the technicalities of notes and other musical markings in the score etc.

Please don't be offended if you don't agree with what we write. This will simply be a combination of a report of our opinions on how we felt the performance went on the day, and of what's happening at the contest.

Please feel free to add your comments and your scores based on what you heard but please remember to keep these constructive and within the spirit of tMP and our guidelines. :)
