It is with regret that I report the death of former Long Eaton player and former conductor of Swineshead Derek Stephens. Derek died Monday night after a long battle with cancer.
The funeral is on may 15th at the Centenary Methodist Church Red Lion Street Boston at 1pm

Thats very sad news Sharon, although I knew he was very ill, and spoke to him only 4weeks ago. I remember him in his Long Eaton days, he was a good cornet player, he used to help out Bestwood at the drop of a hat.Also when he moved to Boston and began conducting Swineshead, I had the pleasure of attending several rehearsals when I was over in that part of the country, and was always made very welcome, not only by Derick but by the Band as a whole, and lots were very young.
