Maybe you are stuck wondering what to buy someone for Christmas, or are even wondering what you would like for yourself (so that appropriate hints can be so innocently dropped)
If I could make a suggestion......
I have spent time over the weekend reading "Embuchure Enhancement" Roddy Lewis (alias Roddy o-iii<O, Emb - Enh) and carrying out some of his "tests".
The books have been a been a "revelation" to myself, and can only describe the effect of them as EXCITING!
Roddy goes to lengths to explain that the books "do not promote an embouchure change" and are "designed not to interfere with what a teacher might be trying to inculcate into the student"
For myself, I say that the books educate the reader as to exactly what is really going on re Lip Vibs, Airflow etc........and somehow the reader discovers for him/herself the optimum playing method.
PS I have never met or spoken to Roddy, or received any lessons from him (but that will soon change).
To experience a taste of how Roddy can help - just check some of his posts here on tMP

Well, for those who don't know what to buy a loved one, may I suggest the latest release from tHB, due out early December (I think)
Christmas is Coming featuring tHB with Lucy Rhodes (Radio 2 Choirgirl of the Year 2002).
A bargain price (which I think is a tenner??!), some new arrangements by Mr. Mute - pour the mulled wine, eat a mince pie and enjoy!

For Christmas I would like....
* A new car (that the exhaust isn't broken on and the radio works or one
that doesn't look like an ice-cream van)
* Some money (to give to Mr Bank Manager)
* Some chocolate coins, a few nuts and a satsuma
Thanks x

For the world to move away from the huge commercialism that is Christmas. I hate the pressure of having to buy presents for distant family that I never see, spendng money that I don't have and receiving stuff from other people that I don't really want or need.
Much better that people get together to celebrate and have a good time without the financial pressures.
I suggest that everone who was going to buy presents should instead offer thier time/help instead. (Why not offer to mow the lawn 10 times for your parents, eh???).
We'd all be much happier, and closer to the true Christmas message.

What do I want to get for Christmas? Drunk!
But seriously folks, my girlfriend keeps taunting me with 'I've already got your Christmas present' without actually telling me what it is! (I haven't got hers yet but you but we'll keep that between us, OK? ), so I'll just have to wait and see! Bearing in mind she lives some 450 miles away from me, there's not much chance I can sneak a peek as to what it might be!

Was that a quarter of humbugs you wanted, Mike?
I'm only kidding. I'd prefer to strike a balance between the two (bearing in mind I have 3 brothers, 4 sisters, 10 nephews and nieces.... that's not 10 each, though!) I do see where you're coming from, Mike. I do feel guilty sometimes when I get a present from an unexpected quarter, knowing that I didn't get THEM one. Don't know about mowing the lawn 10 times in the middle of winter, though!
A few of us got together every Christmas morning for a few years and went round SE London hospitals to play carols to the patients. (I remember the first time we did this! There were 8 of us converging on the now derelict Hither Green Hospital in Lewisham. Ss we struck up the first few bars of our first carol, 'Hark! The Herald Angels Sing', a patient banged on his wall and shouted 'Shut that ****ing row up!'

I have to agree. A long time ago I stopped sending Christmas cards to people I work with, band members and friends in general. Instead I make a donation of £10 to a different charity each year. I can wish these people a Happy Christmas, I don't need to swap cards with them just to be sure they have an enjoyable time :!:

It'll be available from any member of tHB once it's released - we'll announce it on tMP so you'll be first to hear about it!
As for 2 front teeth...booked up til Chrimbo I'm afraid - but I could do them for Valentines!
I'd like a less stressful job for Xmas please....

A custom built horn in spangly blue with silver trim and a glass mouthpiece. And the Solo Horn seat. And to be able to play for 24 hours straight without looking like Leslie Ash afterwards. And for Jessop-Smythe to give me a brand new artic unit like what Chris Eubank has. And a personal trainer/dietician/cook/nanny so I can devote myself to becoming SlimnSexyMamaBadger instead.
Oh and probably some chocolate.

Well........nearly!! I actually only need the one. One is there and one isnt. Hopefully by halving the amount I want for christmas and thereby halving the cost, It's more likely that Santa might bring it for me. Then again, perhaps go and see one of cornet girl's colleagues when funds allow!!!

All I want for Christmas is band practice. Yes you heard.
OK I may be a festive yuletide BOC but why oh why oh why do we spend weeks getting everyone in practice with lots of carol playing to improve our tone, intonation and stamina, then immediately take two weeks off to undo all the hard work we've put in...
Bah humbug.

All I want for xmas is to hear the shrill of excitement and happiness from my two boys on xmas morning! :)
An unrealistic want for xmas would be a little more time with those loved ones who have sadly departed.
I would love a chaos pad 2

It's an effects unit that you can feed any sound into and turn it into something else.
I had a quick go on one with my dad at the NEC 'Music Live' show last weekend.
Maybe Santa might bring me one of these for Christmas this year
