Anyone know when the test pieces will be announced?

hehe...band weekend away on my birthday :woo

Di

Usually around the end of May/beginning of June. IIRC, in the last few years the announcement has been made in the last Bandsman of May.

Only 6 months to go folks.......our excellent chairman (£5 on Sunday will do fine for that!) has got our hotel all booked, travel down Fri evening, staying over Saturday then up the road Sunday to arrive home just in time for band practice (only joking about the last bit - I hope!).

Chunky

and a £34 Pizza!

Can I just point out that the £34 pizza was only down to one member of our band. Your comments are casting a slur over all of us other Cawston members Roger

Caroline with you being a student its always somebody elses round!

That's nothing. What about the £40 cocktail. Wasn't that a certain member of the Cawston clan too? ;)

Should be a busy weekend as I'm wagging in the 3rd and playing in the 2nd!

Just found out that the contest sec wants to do Harrogate and back in a day because of the finances. Don;t think he realises that its at least 3 hours from Anglesey and we are the first section on that weekend!

Your lucky! We're having to get 20 of the band's members a whole day off school so we can leave on friday morning, and then we'll not get back home till sunday night, it'll probably take about 9/10hrs to get to Harrogate from Campbeltown!!

Know roughly how you feel - we HAVE to travel 5 1/2 hours for the area each way! We had to do it for Torquay and then I did it the following year in Dundee!

Aaah, Mr Scrot.... Schroeter!

How could I forget Keith of Goodbye to Love fame, the person who managed to scare the whales off in Nova Scotia by puking all the way on the whale watching trip!

Good to hear from you, no doubt will share a few more pints in Harrogate (not too many as I'm playing on the Sunday!)

Congratulations to the winners - didn;t get chance to hear any bands as I had to travel back to Anglesey to rehearse with beaumaris for the 2nd section.

All I will say about my performance is DOH!!!!!!! Taxi for one former conductor! Sorry Band - MY FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still, we've never made it to the Finals in the 3rd Section so I suppose it is our best result ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to Phil, Fred and all the gang at Middleton from Oldham Band (Lees). Delighted for a fellow North West band to win it if it wasnt to be us .

I heard quite a few performances but missed yours unfortunately. However, as I said to Fred yesterday, everyone who did hear it said it was the performance to beat so hats off and we hope you had a few of these last night :guiness.

Gee, thanks Keith! I probably ought to be insulted, but nothing's going to bring me down this weekend, not even Wales losing in the Rugby.

I think I should have had a word with Iwan Fox though, I'd have preferred them to crop me out of the photographic crime in question and leave Lou on her own! Maybe they're making up for using the winning group photo they took while I was still in the khazi.....

Back in sunny Perth after a good journey home, made far better time on a Sunday than a Friday night. Well done all the prizewinners, we were undone by our tendency to rush things a bit , particularly in the first movement.

Reckon that half of our band managed the biggest cheer of the day though, celebrating ever-so-slightly prematurely when second place went to band number SEVEN.......teen....

Oh, and our MD got his photo on 4BR - or at least his bottom half, clad in his tartan trousers.

Well done Middleton!

Thanks for your congrats - we've had a brilliant weekend and I think it's fair to say there are some very sore heads today!!

Congratulations to all bands for this weekend, especially to Oldham Lees who came 3rd in our section. The Northwest have come up trumps with 2 out of 3 in the frame AGAIN! Well done Oldham

I'd better get mine too; I kept hearing rumours of Bob having some champagne all weekend, but I haven't had a sniff of it yet!

Just realised that my previous post was my 1000th on tMP, so a momentous weekend all round

May i add my congrats to Middleton. by all accounts a fantastic rendition of the piece.
well done indeed.

On a slightly sour note, i didn't get to hear any bands at the weekend. I point blank refuse to pay to go and listen to bands in my own section. especially after the amount of money it cost us all to get there, perhaps this is why the hall was so empty for the majority of the day? Points for another thread me thinks.

Again Congrats to all the prize winners at the weekend, especially the third section champions of Great Britain, Middleton Band:clap:

Thats Campbeltown home at last, nearly 11hrs on the coach and feeling rather fragile! 4am we got to bed this morn!

Well done to the prize winners, bit disappointed we were just out the top 6th but proud of how our kids played!

And I nailed my top Ds at the start of the piece as I was covering the EEb Bass fanfare part at the beginning! Not many pieces start with top Gs and Ds on BBb Bass!!!!!!!

I would just like to say congratulations to Middleton Band on thier winning performance at the nationals. I would also like to congratulate Carl (I know he is no longer the MD sadly) because he has done an excellent job in getting Middleton as far as they have. I know when I was a member there Carl was a great MD.
I feel Carl should recieve some recognition - well done

I reckon I was the main offender, and that now probably ranks as my most embarrassing moment of all time!!

Good weekend though, just packing our bags for the bahamas! (playing over there!)
Well done to the winners, and everyone else. It was a great weekend. Pity the bandsmens tickets didn't allow us to watch the other bands... although I did manage to storm in to see Campbelltown free! I enjoyed their performance, although from where I was sitting the acoustics weren't very good. Good clean performance though...
