View Full Version : THE EVENT- Who's going to stay over??
The Cornet King
05.11.2003, 18:54
Now Roger has kindly given us all of the details for the event, Children in Need (a fabulous event i hope we can all make it too! :D ) is anybody going to stay over Friday night and make a social of it??
If so, how about we get an idea of the numbers who want to and then we try and organise accomodation for all of us???? Does anybody know the area or possible accomodation??
Anyway would be good if we could get a rough gist of how many people would consider staying over. :D

I'd quite like to stay over, but it depends how late we finish. I really can't get trashed since I got a concert the very next night!
If we can get a block booking somewhere in the centre of Brum I'd love to stay with y'all but I may leave you to your carousing and just laugh at you at breakfast time...

Well it all depends if I was picked really. If I was I would be there and socialise and would consider staying over but if I'm surplus to requirements I'd leave you lot to party as I'd attend my own band rehearsal.

The BBC have been told that we are bringing approximately 50 musicians. I think we have 48. So a couple of Soprano Cornets would probably seal it!

I think sparkly was supposed to be looking, but I'll get in touch (while she's lost her internet!) and find out.
I'll stay over as long as I have the cash available.

I'll stay! The Cornet King has promised me beer for giving him a lift there!
If anyone else wants a lift from Leeds/West Yorkshire area then P.M. me :D
I won't be stopping over unfortunatly, but I can assist those that don't know Brum! I would suggest getting a hotel on Broad Street (same place as Symphony Hall) as this is the main 'pub run' in Birmingham packed with pubs and loads of night life, is a 10-15 minute walk (or 5 min taxi) from station.
The best budget hotel I know is some sort of sleep inn/comfort inn/something like that where rooms are around £40 a night - you might be able to get family rooms?
All I know, is the hotel is linked directly with Old Orleans, probably the only quiet pub on Broad Street! There is also secure parking behind the pub/in front of the hotel for those driving down in Mercs!
Have spent many a happy morning coming out of that place with a hangover

Hey Andrew, you'd better not be one of these serious heavyweight drinkers!!! Otherwise i'd better apply for another student loan now
On the other hand, thats what a student loan is for (beer, lots and lots of beer :D :D )mmmmmm........
They'd better have some decent Ale down in those parts!! :D

right, I'll contact sparkly and you tonight, and you can see each other at band, but you can get a single for £4.50 or something from piccadilly, and it goes through stockport.
not sure how late you'd be able to get a train back... if I get the car to go down, I'll definitely be staying over, as I plan to be in no state to drive! Can you not stay till the saturday then?

Gor blimey the social engineering is going to be complex for this one. Who gets to sleep with whom, and why.
Obviously it'll be cheaper for everyone if people share, also where are we going to find a hotel with 48 free bedrooms all on one night.
If I end up sharing with anyone who snores/farts/sleepwalks there will be unpleasantness which is why I'm NOT volunteering to share with Jessop-Smythe. :x
Like I said, I'm probably going to be a bit of a lightweight so will happily share with another lightweight.
I'll be picking up the Manc. train in Crewe probably, so can meet up with Mancs if you let me know what train you're on? (Feel a song coming on....)

My train gets in at 12:06, can't connect with the Manc train. What say everyone who gets into New Street meets up in the station pub (used to be above the platforms before you went out through the ticket barriers) 11:45 - 12:15 ish?
Then we can either all walk to the Mailbox or organise outselves a load of taxis.

Although I'm not going I think this will be helpful to you all. We used this place after the Open and it was cheap with a decent breakfast. I think it was all cold stuff but I honestly dont remember, just remember it didnt come back up. We went to the one on Lionel Street.

Its the Holiday Inn Express, has loads of rooms, the receptionist girl was great (didnt mind our drunkenness and even knocked the dodgy movies off the bill cos we couldnt operate the tv in our room). Its a £4 cab from Broad Street as well. I think it was £25 a person in our room for 4 and there is a discount if you book on-line.
Happy Camping everyone.
