...about this forum is the use of "Whilst." You absolutely never hear it in American English. I'm kind of a language buff and I just love the word. (Then again, I'm easily amused.)

Whilst we do use the word "whilst" occasionally we haven't yet gotten used to your use of the word "gotten", originally in common usage over here but now quite forgotten :wink:

The big problem with "gotten" is that people are now use "got" in place of have (i.e. "We've got it," I've got you covered," or "You've got to be kidding.) that my pet peave

Hardly seems fair does it, colOURful yes, but not a fair trade. (BTW, I believe in this context it's spelled 'ho.

oh, I thought that got and gotten were wrong in both positions, the correct word to use being 'have' or 'have gotten' or 'have got'

I like "whilst"
I've never used in my life though.
we're after getting rid of it from modern conversation

I never used 'whilst', I normally use 'however', or if i'm being lazy 'but'.
