It's prediction time once again, the area qualifiers are getting close, and the tMP Predictogizmatron has been fed with all the details of competing bands. All we would like you to do is choose your top 3 in each section. Simple.
For those of you who have not been lucky enough to be inflicted with this before, clicking on the link at the very top of the page will bring you to the Predictions Contest page, where you choose your bands. It's as simple as that.
Well, each section in each area will have 15 points. For every successful prediction, you will score 5 points. Furthermore, if you predict a band in the top 3, but out of position, you score 2 points.
The lucky tMPer with the most points will be declared the winner, and be the object of awe from all other tMPers.
Have fun.

Entered my Yorkshire ones, and started on Midlands but then it came up with a "no user name" error when I tried to enter Midland 1st section. The others all seemed to go through fine & definitely recognised who I was.
p.s. wasn't me who put Imps as 1st in Yorkshire, but is a nice thought !!

John, there are a number of sections/regions where I have absolutely no idea who most of the bands are and pick based upon the best sounding band names.. but would it be possible to create a lucky dip button that automatically selects three at random for a number of sections/areas?
Perhaps a thought for future prediction competitions. Looking forward to inputting my predictions...

No worries, just me being lazy I guess!
Also I've just noticed that the Page Titles for the "Live Stats" and "Current Standings" refer to 2006 and 2005 contests respectively.
Fantastic way to waste time at work - thanks!!

Live stats working fine for me.
'Current standings' is supposed to reflect results so far, so isn't applicable till next week.
Oh, & rather than a 'lucky dip', why don't you go through an in depth, detailed analysis of the results of last years regional / national contests, pontins, butlins etc etc when choosing the unfamiliar region / section results like everyone else does..... ;)

Live stats working fine for me.
I meant the page title simply said "2006" not "2007", which could be confusing, but based on the bands listed I guessed it was the 2007 details.

Well that was a great way to pass an hour or so of a Monday morning!!
A lot of wild guess work on the regions less familiar to me and so many bands i have never heard of although it is quite encouraging for the movement to see so many bands competing this year!
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!

I see Grange Moor already have a few nominations fopr placings in Yorkshire 1st section - interesting because the official tMP yorkshire area thread lists them as WITHDRAWN :(

heres all my predictions, now I need to ask the good people of the areas where I have no idea about at all if you think ive done pretty fair guesses or if you think im bonkers and some of those bands are unlikely to come in the top 3, this is directed to the people who have good knowledge of all the areas bar yorkshire pretty much, should be pretty close there, although I dont think im too far wrong with the north west, your opinions are appreciated as I really would like to know what you think of these predictions, CHEERS! :D

Yep, a number of people have commented on how tough a competition the Yorkshire 1st Section's going to be - it's so tough that band's that aren't even competing have got a chance of a place ;) .
Even better is they've got more votes than BBSBB - not much chance for us then.
Also is someone who generates the spreadsheet for the competition a Predictogizmatronicologist?
and how long before Clive ^ gets an interesting comment from John or Dyl? I can't wait to read what they have to say to that one.

tried six times to put entries in also tried to exit but continue to get error message
Grange Moor have now been removed from the list. Thanks all for pointing it out. ;)
The error messages and been reported and we are doing our best to resolve the issue. Please bear with us, and don't give up. ;)
Hey Clive, thanks for predicting us third! I'm hoping for a top six finish, rehearsals going very well, but I'd take third I guess!
Will post my predictions when I get a min, or when it's working properly!

North West Area
Heard Wire Brass last week play and think they could do the 'impossible' and get a top 3 placing in their first Championship section outing.
Championship
1. Fodens
2. Leyland
3 Wire Brass
Rode Hall are almost certain to come in the top 3 (provided they dont 'crack' on stage!). They entered last year for the first time since they were founded in 1837 and came 21st, but this year they have 6 good new players and rehearsals have gone extremely well. Tuition from Roy Sparkes, Steve Pritchard-Jones and Ewan Easton has helped just a little !!!
4th Section
1. Formby
2. Eatons Farnworth
3. Rode Hall Silver

I'd tentatively go along with this prediction. It would be a great result for Wire but I think they could do it! And Fodens are my all time favourite band, hopefully our performances don't clash!!

Good luck to all bands in the contest, however, I detect a total disrespect for all competing bands in this post.
The fourth section will not be a walkover for any band as the piece will need a lot of musicality bringing out from within. This said, there are a lot of very good bands in this section that are well within a shout of getting a spot on the 'podium'.

I have just been on the 2007 predictions competition and have noticed that it still only reads the results after 1 region.
When will it update
Bradderz!!!
21.03.2007, 15:58
Current Standings ever gonna get updated??!!?!?!?!!??!?
A list of results have been compiled and passed on to our gizmatron wizard. As you will appreciate, there are a lot of results involved here and our techno expert is going through a very busy period. Please be patient and bear with us. The standings will be updated as soon as is humanly (or wizardly  ) possible.
Thank you for being patient with us folks and a big thank you to all those who took part .... a staggering 587 of you made predictions in some or all of the sections.
The results are now in and can be found here (http://nokennedy.brinkster.net/tmpAreas04Results.asp).
Our top scorer, with 189 points, a 3 point lead, and earning himself a "Crusade" CD - BB Waldsang with guest soloist Brett Baker (kindly donated by Lake Music Productions) is
Andy_Euph.
Congratulations Andy.
Joint second places (and sorry, no prizes here :( ) went to Dyl and MICKTHEEUPH with 186 points.
For the rest of the results, follow the link given above.

Robbed again. I would like to complain about the input mechanism, the timing of the regionals, Alliance withdrawing, the computer accepting my inputs rather than my intentions, the use of very tall adjudicators in L&SC, and the tuning of the basses in the fourth section in Yorkshire! (Have I missed anything?)
(Of course, Andy_Euph getting 67 more points might have been a factor too.)

Also - we are currently expanding the tMP predictogizmotron which will hopefully allow us to cover many more contests throughout the year. Good..?

 I have had a great idea.
All of the area contests should be on different days but all sections on one day. I will 'train' (ha ha!) as an adjudicator, turn my hearing aid off and offer my services for free to all area committees to adjudicate all sections. I will then be able to ensure that my predictions are correct particularly as one of my conditions will be to disallow any band withdrawals.
Obviously if my predictions were available to all before the contest, then all bands who knew they wouldn't be in the prizes could use Will the Sec's letter as published in 4 bars rest to express their 'I wuz robbed' sentiments before the contest and raise loads of money for "Will Anticipatory Whinges Limited" (split the profits Will?).
I don't know why this hasn't been thought of before?

Oh bum - just out side the top one hundred Quite pleased with that though, The Welsh really came through for me as did the Northern area. One region I know nothing about (Wales) and the other is my home region...go figure?!!.
Also how come I'm beneath Roger just because his name comes before mine alphabetically ;) !!
