I am always encouraged by news of the increasing number of young people in our wonderful movement, and this is also reflected in the membership on tMP. As more and more people discover, join and enjoy what we do on tMP, many of these new members are indeed from, shall we say, the younger generation.

Enthusiasm and passion in youth is a wonderful thing, and as such we felt it appropriate that we look to some of our enthusiastic younger members to perhaps take on a new tMP role of encouraging, mentoring and generally assisting some of these new (and maybe not so new too!) members. So, as of today, we have created the new role of tMP Juniors Representative - which can be identified by members with the following tMP badge:

We have invited a very special person to be our very first tMP Juniors Representative. This person is Sophie… aka Sopha.

To illustrate the passion and enthusiasm Sophie has for all things brass banding, and to illustrate clearly why we felt Sophie would be a wonderful and obvious choice for this role, here's a little bio:

I belong to 2 bands, my 1st one being Silver Sounds. I joined this band 4 years ago at the tender age of 8! I started on flugel horn but then just died for the chance to hop on to cornet, which I have been playing ever since and now play as Principal cornet!! The second band I belong to is The Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Service band which I started as 2nd Cornet then being promoted onto Rep. With the Fire & Rescue band we do quite a lot of big concerts! We have a twin Band in Germany that we see every 2 years. Last year they visited us and what a fabulous time we all had!! It was filled with loads of really good parties, concerts and outings ect. and I really can’t wait to go over there next year!!
I enjoy playing so much and honestly don’t know what I’d do without being in these terrific bands!

Last year I was diagnosed with a serious spinal condition which meant I had to undergo a major spinal operation. The operation – over 12 hours - went ahead as planned in September, and I was told that I would not be able to attend band for at least 3 months. Just as I was due to leave hospital an x-ray revealed that ‘the screws had fallen out’ which meant I had to have another following 6 hours of surgery so they could replace my back with larger screw and it also meant that it put my recovery back even further. Once I left hospital In October I was back and playing after about a week and a half of coming out. I even played Last post and Reveille for the first time at a local Remembrance Service not long after. Everyone says I’ve done brilliantly and can’t believe how committed I am to my playing.I am sure you will agree she will undoubtedly do a great job for us. Please offer Sophie your support as she enthusiastically helps all our younger members.
