Emley Brass Band, After a great performance on the area stage and a dissapointing result (whats new) are looking forward to the coming concert season, We've got loads of great music in the repotoire at the moment but we need a drummer to really complete our band, It's amazing what empty bars there are without a drummer!!!

Were very friendly and welcoming, will to take players of any standard that are commited and want to help the band steadily progress..

Please either reply to this thread, pm me or email me if you're interested in any of the above positions...

Emley Brass band are looking for a Front row cornet player, we would rather have a dedicated bandsman with the right attitude than a superstar player who doesn't feel he/her has to do all the rehearsals.

We are also seeking one more back row player for our Squad rotation system! No-one plays 2nd or 3rd cornet on every piece, hopefully swapping around means some of the boredem of um-chucks is shared out a little, We believe this is a unique system to our back row. Any seat (including rep) is available to the right player!

We're also seeking a tenor trombonist and a percussionist to add to the team.

We are a 4th section outfit that takes the music seriously in the bandroom but we don't take anything seriously outside!! We have a great team feeling round the stands and are keen to fill these last couple of seats!

Emley is just off Junction 39 of the M1, which makes it within 25 mins drive of Leeds/Wakefield/Sheffield/Barnsley/Doncaster/Huddersfield/Bradford (nearly most of West Yorkshire!!). We rehearse Monday's and Wednesday's 8 - 9.45pm.

We have our own (centrally heated) bandroom and instruments available for all our players. So . . . if this sounds like your cup of tea get in touch pm me, email me through our website www.emleybrassband.co.uk or ring me 077 3239 6776. Cheers Garry.

Following the retirement yesterday of Malcolm Smith (after 57 years of faithful, dedicated banding) we now have a vacant Eb Bass position to fill.

Emley Brass Band is a very friendly, good quality, hard working 4th section outfit and are looking for a return to the third section next year.
Applicants should be dedicated bandspersons, not shy to put in the hard work to help continue the steady overall improvement of the band and in return will enjoy a lively and enjoyable social side.

We also require a capable, dedicated and committed front row cornet player to complete our fast improving cornet team.
We rehearse Monday and Wednesday nights 8:00pm - 9:45pm and would love to hear from you.

Our recent contest results include 4th in the 2005 Yorkshire Area 4th section contest, and 2nd in section B of the local Pogson Bray contest.

If you are interested please contact myself by pm or email, or alternatively our Musical Director Garry Hallas (Ploughboy) by the same means.

Emley Brass band are looking to fill our last few remaining seats.

We require 2 dedicated and committed tutti cornets.

Applicants should be of a reasonable standard as the band is looking to move onwards and upwards from the Yorkshire 4th section, but more importantly should be prepared to rehearse twice a week (Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:00 - 9:45) with extra rehearsals during contest run-ups.

We also require a BBb or Eb bass player to complete our bass line up. Thanks to the versatility of our existing team we can happily accommodate either a BBb or Eb player. Once again, we are looking for someone who is prepared to rehearse twice a week.

We are a good 4th section band, improving at an impressive rate and looking to move out of the 4th section next year.

We have a busy concert program for this year, have already secured repeat bookings for 2006 and also enjoy our contests, recent results being 4th in our section at Malton Entertainment contest last year, 4th at this years 4th Section Yorkshire Area contest, and 2nd in our section at Pogson Bray own choice contest in April. We also compete at Whit Friday, this year beating several 3rd section and even 2nd section bands at various villages along the way.

If you would like to join and be a part of our friendly and hard working band, you can get in touch by either pm-ing me, emailing me (cjhowe@lycos.co.uk) or alternatively pm-ing our conductor Garry Hallas (Ploughboy).
We are situated within 15 minutes drive of either Juntion 25 of the M62 or Junctions 38/39/40 of the M1.

Go on, apply, you know you want to.
You'll never enjoy your banding more than with The Emley. ;)

Huddersfield basically, so we're probably about a 25 minute drive away from you. I used to work in Milnrow so I'm fairly certain you can do it in less than half an hour from Rochdale.

The quickest route for you would be to come off the M62 at J23 or 34, follow the signs for Huddersfield and then we're a 10 minute drive away once you've hit the Huddersfield ring road.

(pm me if you want some more in depth directions)

From what Roy and Linda were saying, I'd happily play for Emley if I was up that way!
it's a bit far to go twice a week. 56 miles to Woodfalls and back is enough for me!!

Mind you, if Vonny is actually cute like she says, it may influence my decision!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm happy to help out, especially as you helped us at cottingham at short notice!

Emley Brass Band are now advertising for a Principal Cornet and a Principal Euphonium to lead our two very capable sections.

Applicants must be of a good standard, possess good leadership qualities, and be committed to Monday and Wednesday night rehearsals (with extra rehearsals in the lead up to contests).
We are located within 15 minutes drive of J38 of the M1 and J25 of the M62 (Bretton near Wakefield and Brighouse respectively).

Please contact either myself (by pm or email cjhowe@lycos.co.uk (cjhowe@lycos.co.uk)) or our musical director Garry Hallas (Ploughboy) by pm if you are interested in either of the vacant positions. This is a unique chance to join one of Yorkshires friendliest and fastest improving lower section bands.

We would like to point out that these positions have become vacant due to the loss of Roy and Linda Taylor who, regrettably as far as Emley Brass Band are concerned, have taken the chance to move to bigger and better things, having been offered positions with a higher section local band.
Emley Brass Band have thoroughly enjoyed having Roy and Linda as members for this brief but quite successful period, and we wish them every success possible with their new band. :tup

We are now a completely full 4th section band but for one capable cornet. We are fortunate that we are extremely flexible with our seating arrangements so your capabilities and committment would have a great effect on the seat available to you.

Emley Brass Band are now amongst the best 4th section bands in Yorkshire, recently winning Section B at Malton Entertainment Contest and also scooping Best Basses in the March, Best Basses overall and Most versatile Percussion along the way.

We also came 2nd at the 2005 Pogson Bray local own choice test piece contest and 4th at the Yorkshire Area Final in March, since which time we have added several more quality players to our ranks.

You would be joining a very friendly and hard working band that includes many tMPers including The Cornet King, myself, Matt Lawson, Sop till you drop, Manx_Yessir, Boomchickaboom, Miss Presley, Wahoolies, Popeye, DaisyGemma, Jen, Bassboneshep, Saxysuzuki, Terrible Timp and our conductor Ploughboy.

Unfortunately our existing percussionist has found himself with extremely heavy work and orchestra commitments and is unable to play at the area's.

If you are interested in either position advertised in this thread please contact any of the people mentioned above and we'll sort out some details to get you down to the band room.

It's a chance not to be missed, we're a really good 4th section outfit, hoping to progress to the 3rd section (results permitting in March) and are really realistically hopeful of an appearance at the finals in Harrogate in September.

Emley brass band are looking for a back row cornet player, at Emley we have a unique system, our back row squad rotation means that no-one plays 2nd or 3rd on a permenant basis, we swap piece by piece or concert by concert, hopefully this relieves a little of the bottom C boredom! If this sounds like your cup of tea come down for a blow and meet the team . . . .

We also are in need of a Bass player, Sadly our BBb Nathan Abbotts has decided to move on, he wants a tougher challenge and has had various offers from 1st and Champ section bands, We wish him well in the future wherever he lands he'll be a great asset as he's a top player and a superb bandsman. Back to our empty seat, we are seeking a BBb bass, but we are very fotrunate to have an Eb player who will swap if neccesary, interested? get in touch . . .

Emley, National Finalists 2006 (4th) 3rd section from 2007, rehearse Mon and Wed 8pm til 9.45. We have our own bandroom in the heart of the village. We try to stick to a policy of a couple of jobs a month rather than 50 in July and December!! We don't take bank holiday bookings as we like to have a life outside band!! As a result we have a cracking turn out on jobs and can take on very challeging concert music for a 4th (soon to be 3rd) section band! We also have a very good atmosphere around the band, and a good social side to compliment this!

So come on down, have a blow, no pressure just check us out! I'm sure once you've seen what we've got going on you'll be queing to sign on :-)

Emley Brass Band, a progressive and very friendly band, 4th section National Finalists 06 and already promoted to the Yorkshire 3rd section for 2007, are inviting applications for the position of Principal Cornet following the decision of our current Principal Cornet to accept a position with a local higher section band.

Applicants should be of a good standard, committed, with solid leadership qualities, and be willing and able to rehearse regularly on Mondays and Wednesdays. The successful applicant will head up a very good cornet section.

Please apply or notify us (in confidence) of your intention to apply by pm or email to either our Musical Director Garry Hallas (aka Ploughboy) or myself.

It is with real deep regret that we have to announce the departure of our Principal Cornet Chris Hoyle (The Cornet King) who will be leaving us after our gala fund raising concert in Emley on the 8th of July. Chris is an excellent player who has led our band with a quality of play that has been quite brilliant and speaking for myself it has been an honour and an education to sit on his left hand side. We would like to wish Chris every success with his new band when he leaves, and we thank him for all his hard work and the quality he brought with him during his time with us.

If anyone wants to know more about the band then PM Crawf, Garry or even myself and i'll tell you how good a bunch they are. As Crawf siad my reasons for leaving are purely down to accepting a challenge with a higher section band.

I thank Crawf for his kind words above, and i will wish Emley band every success in the National Finals and beyond. They deserve it.

Please see the last post in this thread for our most recent requirement.

Tis that time again, The Emley band are seeking A new Principal cornet, this person should be dedicated (we've heard that before!) talented and have a tolerance for siting next to tMP's very own 2nd Man Down!! We have 3 solid (very solid) players on the front row and we are pleased to say that our new principal will be sat on top (not literally) of our first full section for going on 3 years!

The small print! - we rehearse Monday's/Wednesdays - 8pm - 9.45pm. We're in sec 3 as of 2007. We do 4/6 contests each year which we take seriously (no point in goin otherwise). We are very well supported in our concerts, and often enjoy full, sell-out crowds with enthusiastic and appreciative reactions! We play a good selection of music (doesn't everyone?) And like every other band in the world - we say we're freindly too!

So don't take my word for it, pop along one night for a blow, and if you've a mate who PLAYS KIT bring them too!!! You'll see why I'm the Happiest MD in Yorkshire, and why I love working with The Emley team.

Hope to see you soon

Thank you all those who have shown interest in this position, we are pleased to announce that although the Principal Cornet seat is still available we have now been joined on our front row by Peter Rhodes, formerly of Grange Moor Band.
Peter joins us having helped Grange Moor Band rise from a non-competing status to the dizzy heights of the 1st section and has joined us to begin a fresh challenge.

All the team at Emley would like to extend a warm welcome to Peter, and we hope our association will be a long and increasingly successful one.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Glyn Richards who has been our Principal Cornet up until Christmas, but who has chosen to leave to pursue other ventures. We wish him the best of luck in his future playing and thank him for the time he spent with us.

Emley Brass Band will be on the lookout for a Flugel Horn Player after the upcoming Yorkshire area contest in Bradford.
It is with great regret that our current Flugel Player (Miss Presley) has decided she needs a complete break from banding due to other more pressing home life commitments and had said she needs to step down after the contest in March.

Applicants should be capable, hard working and dedicated (and able to keep up with Emley's social side too) ;) .

We still rehearse Monday and Wednesday nights, 8 till 9:45 in our own centrally heated band room in Emley.

If you're interested please contact myself, or our conductor (ploughboy) by email or pm and we'll get you down for a blow.

Thanks.

Having shuffled round our existing resources we have a very capable player now on Flugel horn, This has left a gap on SOLO CORNET, but basically we need one cornet player as we have the playes to move around even Sop would be a possibility.

So if you play cornet and would like to come along for a blow and check us out, I'll save the wild claims about how good we are until you've been. Hope to see you soon!

We're on the look out for a front row cornet player (the principal seat is even up for grabs if you have the right stuff, I'd rather not be sat on it!)

We're Yorkshire 3rd Section (4th at the last area contest), current Pogson Bray Trust contest section B champions, and are competing at Easingwold March Contest, Wychaven Entertainment Contest and Malton Entertainment Contest to name but a few later this year.

We enjoy a varied, entertaining and very challenging concert repertoire with soloists all round the stand and have an excellent friendly social side.

We rehearse Monday and Wednesday nights 8 till 9:45 (with additional rehearsals and sectionals in contest run-ups) and are located within 15 minutes drive from junctions 38 - 40 of the M1 and junction 25 of the M62.

If you're interested please apply to either myself or our musical director and conductor Garry Hallas (ploughboy), or indeed any one of the many band members we have on tMP.

C'mon, give us a try, you know you want to. ;)

Hey Folks, thanks for getting down our thread this far.

We are on the look out for a tuned Percussionist, We have an excellent Kit player who is happy to get up and dabble at other stuff now and again, we have a Timp player who's a learning percussionist, he is happy to have a go at other stuff but as he's only learning this is limited, he does however do an excellent job in that corner of the band. So I would like to recruit a Percussionist who is looking to do some Tuned playing, we have Xylo, tubular bells, Wide bar glock, Vibes and asorted other bits and bobs!! I am a percussionist so like to have plenty going on at the back. I would Ideally like to find someone with experience that can give some advice and guidence to our percussionist too!

I can quite boastfully say we have a full set of brass players so are only looking for a tuned percussionist, we do lots of indoor concerts and love taking part in entertainment contests so usually plenty going on there. We are doing the Whychavon entertainment Contet in Sept and Malton in Nov, busyish christmas and then pushing on to 3rd section area's next year (4th this year)

Rehearse in Emley, Mon/Wed 8 - 9.45, Do'nt believe in tons of extra rehearsals anywhere, we play hard every night and don't need to do 114 rehearsals in the last two weeks before a contest.

PM me, or 2nd Man Down if you fancy checking us out!

cheers for reading!

Evening folks.

Emley band are currently seeking a cornet player, We have one empty seat which can be wherever someone wants it to be. If we find, A Sop, 4th Man, Principal, Back row cornet player that would fill up our section again. Doesn't matter which player we find, everyone is willing to shuffle round to help keep the team topped up.

This year we've won at Pogson Bray (test piece) Easingwold (march) and Whychavon (Entertainment) so we've had a great year, and next year promises even more, with a settled team we're improving month by month. have an amazing bandroom atmosphere, and a lot of banter in the pub!

If you're interested give me a shout, pop down one night for a practice and check us out.

Cheers, Garry.

p.s. regarding the above adverts, we now have 3 full time percusionists, and only need 1 cornet player, so all the other vacancies have been filled. thanks.

It's nearly two years since we've advertised a playing position at Emley, Sadly tonight we have said farewell to Raymond Ruscoe. Ray has been at Emley since 1998, when he joined the team as a Trombonist, since then he's had spells on Baritone and Cornet. Everyone at Emley would like to wish Ray a happy retirement and we hope his golf now improves!

We are looking for a cornet player to further enhance the team at Emley, Front or Back Row, Principal - 3rd Cornet. We have a fabulous team here and thus could accommodate a player wherever he/she feels most at home.

We are a 2nd section band that enjoys a hard earned reputation for varied and entertaining concerts. This year we defended our Stocksbridge Band Club most entertaining band title. We try and keep a balanced schedule but like any serious band we do have the odd busy period and take the contests we enter seriously.

If you'd like to have a chat about joining us, or popping down for a blow one evening and checking us out drop me a PM or email (garryhallas@hotmail.com).

Thanks for reading.
Garry.

Evening good folks of tMP,

Emley band are seeking the services of a cornet player, from January 2011 we have shuffled our team around and ideally we are seeking a strong 2nd cornet player, we have been lucky over the last 3-4 years to have some great members on our back row team are you interested in joining us?

2011 will see our full team (once you join!) take on our 2nd year in the 2nd section, it's been a tough ride this year but we've a team full of players determined to make next year better. Next years schedule looks like . .

Feb - Brass at the Guild
March - Area Finals
April - Isle of Manx music festival (weekend away and having some fun and making some great music)
May - Aug - Concerts and a few marching contests
Sept - Oct - Entertainment contests, and concerts
- you know what comes next!! -

If you fancy a chat, just get in touch PM, email, phone etc. I'm happy to talk about my philosophy and our teams aims. We are a happy band that tries to have fun and enjoy our time together, but behind the bandroom door and on stage we work hard to forward the standards we have set ourselves over the last few years.

Hope to hear from you soon.

p.s. if you're reading this and think you could strengthen our team further up or down our cornet team please get in touch, we have some flexibility to work with . . . .

Emley Brass Band are looking to recruit a cornet player for our Front Row. We are happy to sort a seat out for you on any of the 4 you fancy, we've a very capable trio so far, It would be an excellent opportunity for someone wanting to learn the ropes to come in on 3rd man and work your way up, Or for someone looking for that Top seat that wants a very reliable team to support them.

We have ONE seat to fill and this is it, We have had a full to bursting team for the last 6 years at Emley, If you want to drop me a message I'll gladly take the time to tell you why I think that is. . .

We rehearse in our own excellent facilities in the centre of Emley, and then frequent the White Horse over the road. Mondays and Wednesdays, 8pm start. We have a forward thinking organisation and I can promise you a different outlook from the majority of bands out there, maybe that's why we have a full, happy bandroom.

We hope to hear from you soon! :)

Emley Brass band are sad to announce the departure of two of our team, Sam Creamer (Percussion) and Seb Zealand (Solo Trom) have been with us whilst studying Music courses at Huddersfield Uni. They have now both finished their courses (2:1's well done boys) and have moved home. They have both been excellent additions to the Emley team and we will miss them, and wish them every success job hunting and finding new bands closer to home.

Emley Band therefore have immediate vacancies on Solo Trombone and Percussion.

Our percussion section already has two regularly attending members (Mick and Drew) both super guys and good percussionists, so you'll be joining a section to be part of a team, not be the one guy at the back trying to get all the parts in. We have a very good selection of equipment and are always happy to fund new items required. We have an MD who as a percussionist chooses music wherever possible with our percussion section in mind, at least 75% of the pad has three perc parts in it. We would like someone who is happy to play all three sections (Kit, Timps & Tuned), being willing to have a go is important to us. If we were to find someone who has a desire to be a tuned specialist we'd be delighted too, but someone willing to share the parts out has been the way forward for us . . . .

Our Trombone section has been one of the strongest teams in the band, with settled players on Bass ^ 2nd Trom (both members of the organising team and both with over 5 years time with the band). So if you're interested in Solo Trom us you'll be expected to do some solo work, and to be featured in piece's usually bits from memory too, but you can expect great support from the rest of your team..

Emley Band have, over the last 5/6 years only had the odd vacant seat. We work hard at improving our team together and keeping players enjoying what we do. We have a very sensible concert/contest diary not over committing ourselves to too much work. We have a solid financial footing and everyone in the team chips in with the running of the band even if it's only a little job, it means someone else isn't doing everything! I work hard from the middle keeping programming fresh and innovative, you will find we play a lot of music that no one else seems to, and there's a fresh feeling to every concert we do.

We have had two tough years in the 2nd section and are going to be 3rd section from Jan 2012, but no one has left the band, no one is down hearted, we know we are still going in the right direction, and in a year or two when we get back to the 2nd section again we will stand a much stronger chance of making our mark. How many bands can say they've had two years at the bottom of the contesting pile and then got relegated, and still kept a full compliment of happy players!

This year we've have won the Otley Mayors challenge and we were delighted with our 7th overall at Grotton!

If you're interested in joining our team then please get in touch, PM or facebook etc, I'll gladly fill you in on all things Emley.

Cheers,
Garry.

for a little more Info please see post above this (#134) . . .

We're not taking our relegation lightly in the coming months we have planned a series of masterclasses for each section of the band run by some of Yorkshire banding's great names in order to encourage our team to be individually the best that they can be. . . . Alongside our concert commitments we are also going to working towards the Pogson Bray Trust Contest, Leicester Own Choice Contest, Butlins. . . Looking further forward a return to the Isle of Manx in 2013, and a couple of other exciting idea's in the pipeline too!!

Get in touch if you're interested, I'm happy to have a chat about some of the finer details of the Emley organisation . . .
