Is it true then?

Is Newcastle Brown Ale to be the official tMP beer?

Pleeeaaaase!

After all, it's obviously healthy!

Rearranging the letters of 'Newcastle Brown Ale' gives:

Want cleaner bowels?

quite ironic in a way I think!

:D I'm up for that Neil.
As long as the official drink of the tMPers is a decent Ale (being a yorkshire man it HAS to be Ale) i aint bothered! :D
:D

In fact i'm just off out now and shall enjoy my first pint (or 10) of THE OFFICIAL tMP Ale.
As for the cleaner bowels...

square (aka pythagoras) will drink anything, and usually at double the speed of your average drinker.... then sway a lot and eventually pass out...

.... actually the second bit (swaying and passing out) is pretty standard accross most people i know.

Nope, loath it... I'm with the guinness drinkers on this one! It's a much more classy drink. A chinese guy I know once described it as a delicacy!

you're not supposed to drink it out of a full pint glass all at once, or it goes completely flat! hence the fact that we were drinking half pints of it from a nearly full pint bottle!

surprisingly no one has said they don't drink!

having said that, I've only ever met one bander who didn't drink... so maybe its the fault of brass bands that beer consumption in this country is so high!

As any Geordie will tell you, Newcastle Brown has to be drunk from a half glass, none of this "straight from the bottle" rubbish. In fact in the toon, a "Dog" will come with a half-pint glass without prompting.

However, I'm sorry to say that Newcastle Broon isn't my favourite "Newcastle Beer". Newcastle Exhibition Ale, in my mind is nicer and doesn't go flat so quickly. I think it's stronger, or it may just mess me up more and it also tends to make me ill! However its fairly difficult to get hold of on draught and even harder to find in bottles. There used to be a Newcastle Amber Ale as well, which my old band's old bandroom used to sell in their bar and my dad used to drink in the break. He claimed it was gorgeous, but i haven't seen it for years and hence have been unable to appreicate it for myself. Does anyone know if it's still available????

Also try Federation LCL if you ever see it...... Poor man's Stella. Apparently its brewed to reduce calories or carbohydrates or something LCL = Low Calorie/Carbohydrate Lager. All this "process" does is make you very drunk and do silly things.. hence the nickname Lose Control Lager.
It's another love it or hate it drink.... but i love it!

None of this Irish Meal In A Glass rubbish thanks, I prefer not having to use a knife and fork when consuming my pints!! And as for that "shamrock in the head" thing.... How tacky!!

Did you know in 1988, in protest to a hostile takeover bid of Scottish and Newcastle by an Australian company, Newcastle Brown Ale Bottles had their labels stuck on upside down? The takeover bid failed.

I agree with the shamrock thing... never saw the point and I think it's only really done when bars in dublin are ripping off amazed tourists...

However, as far as the meal in the glass goes, it's important to know that even if you haven't eaten all day you can still go to bed not feeling hungry! And I'm sure if you'd tried the real, straight from the liffey, original Mr Guinness recipe Guinness, you would change your mind!

I think we would have to insist on a set percentage of all tMPers before it could be official - you may have to settle for "unofficial" like the postal workers

'Dog' is the newcastle term for Newcastle Brown Ale

Pythagoras

Had to pay the 20p at Manchester Piccadilly station to use the toilets today thanks to the Brown Ale.

According to Geordie Colin, the reason its called Dog is that men in Newcastle used tell their wives that they were going to walk the dog when they were really gouing to the pub, so they ordered a bottle of dog when they got there.

Dog - Apparently on most evenings in Newcastle you could hear the men leaving their houses for the local pub, shouting back to their wives; "I'm just gan doon the road to tak the dog for a waak!"

I assume these Geordie Hinnies were convinced their husbands were really walking their dogs, even if they didn't have one and also that the pubs really were full of dogs as a result?. But then again I thought every Geordie had a Whippet and Racing Pigeon. I think the men got away with it because their wives were too embroiled in their Proggie Mats making??!
