View Full Version : The Event - Good News from the BBC

Roger Thorne
27.10.2003, 11:09
Right - great news at last.

I know this has been a long time coming, but at last the Producer of West Midlands BBC Children in Need has finally contacted us.

The news is that the BBC DO want us for this years Children in Need. She said they would want us to play - if possible - three times..

1 - Live on air to local TV (BBC Midlands i.e. >4,000,000 people coverage) in the Mailbox during the evening with the possibly of a recording of this going out on TV sometime during the evening.
2 - Live broadcast on BBC Radio West Midlands (between 1:00 and 4:00)
3 - to the crowd outside sometime during the evening

We have to get in touch with several people to get the details sorted.

I know it is short notice, but there really isn't anything any of us could have done to speed things up - John has been contacting the BBC regularly, and it's only now that they are starting to contact those who they wish to use to 'make up' their show.

So, I'm hoping we are still green light 'go' for launch, and that we can muster up some good 'ol tMP support for this whole thing.

Just to remind everyone of the details:

Friday 21st November
Venue: Birmingham
(approximate times: Midday onwards - allowing for a rehearsal)

Allthough we have conducted a Poll to assess the availability of players, obviously it is now short notice so what we would like our members to do is:

Post in this Thread ONLY if you are still available and the instrument or position you normally play in your own band.

ie: Joe Bloggs - 2nd Cornet.

We are looking for approximately 50 musicians (2 full bands).

We would also appreciate some non-playing members to help alongside with the general running of things.

We will then contact/update you via e-mail or PM and send you further details as we receive them here.

Thanking you in anticipation of your support.

We appreciate that this may cause some concern at the moment, but
once we have our tMP band we will be able to sort out any transport problems that arise.
We are working very hard behind the scenes collating as much information as possible and will post it here when it becomes available.

I'm sure venues etc have been sorted but it may be worth noting that BBC in Birmingham is now based at the Mailbox (about 100yds from New Street Station - and on the floor above my bosses!!!). Not sure on studios etc, but worth noting.

Thanks Darren,

The BBC are moving next year from their Pebble Mill studios to a new location in Birmingham called the Mail Box - however, they are still in negotiations with their landlords regarding when, what, etc etc. They are also looking to do the Children in Need show this year from that location, but need to negotiate this temporary occupation of a building not yet ready for them with the landlords.
As we've said already, as soon as we have the information we will post it on here.

Hi Folks,

As the event is now well and truly under way we have now made available a
Sponsorhip Form for those taking part in the Event.

In the original post it was stated that all participants would be expected to have a minimum sponsorship of 10 (the bigger sponsorship the better!).

Once you've collected the money from all your sponsors could you please send a cheque made payable to: The Mouthpiece.com to:

Hi Neil,

We still haven't had confirmation of the exact times we're playing, but if you plan to arrive in Birmingham no later than Midday that should allow us enough time to organise ourselves.

We still have to arrange a meeting place in Birmingham, so when we have the details/confirmation from the BBC we will post them on the forum.

Incidently, I have now agreed with my boss to have friday afternoon off work. provided i make the hours up the rest of the week...

So i want anyone who has my number and is up that early, to phone me at 6:30 am to make sure i get up in order to get into work and build up some hours.

Don't know if it helps but have you tried bmibaby and lastminute.com Moy?

You should at least be able to get something cheaper - don't know how much cheaper tho!

Best of luck

Another idea.... not perfect but....

Is anyone coming down from the North? I would guess it would be easier to travel to North of England and grab a lift with someone else rather than a 7 hour trip Moy?

Could be a suggestion...... although still not a pleasant trip admittedly!
