In celebration of the 7th anniversary of The Brass Crest (http://www.brasscrest.com/), we are pleased to announce the launch of

The ERRATA PROJECT (http://www.brasscrest.com/errata/)

The purpose of the Errata Project is to build a searchable database of errata for Salvation Army band music. The editors hope that this will be a useful resource for conductors and players as they rehearse and prepare this music. While the quality of music published by the various Salvation Army publishers is very high, the sheer volume of items issued throughout the years has allowed a number of errors to find their way into the publications. The database will be built primarily from visitor submissions.

For more information on this project, please read the overview (http://www.brasscrest.com/errata/).

The BRASS CREST is an independent site featuring news and information about brass bands, instruments and music, focusing on the Salvation Army brass band tradition. The site is NOT officially sanctioned or approved by any Salvation Army officer, center or command. Views expressed on The Brass Crest do not necessarily represent the position of the Salvation Army, and nothing on the site should be interpreted as a solicitation for contributions to any Salvation Army program.

Poo. This was exactly the idea I had about 4 years ago but never got around to implementing!

Any chance this would be opened up to non SA music?

It could eventually be opened up to non-SA music. There's nothing in the database or software that could not be easily changed to allow this. However, my site is focused on SA music, and I'm much more familiar with it, so it fits better that way right now.

There's also a fair amount of work involved, because I am trying to confirm submitted errata as best as I can, and there are really only a couple of people working with me at the moment. Also, in order to do confirmations I really need access to the original music, and I do not have any significant library of non-SA music to use.

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing.. even got a prototype designed but never got round to getting it finished..

May look at doing the rest of the "project" and link through to you if thats alright?

Feel free to PM or email to webmaster@brasscrest.com with any details. Be aware that the code as currently constructed still needs some work (most notably, I need to provide printable pages), but I'm not adverse to sharing.

The Errata Project has been re-launched with a new, easier-to-navigate design.

If you've found any errors in SA-published band music, please send them in for inclusion in our database.
