Hi sparkly...
... well there's one in Coleford at the beginning of February I think. It's an open entertainment contest i.e. just 1 section with prizes for the highest placed 'n' section bands.

I take it that Brass at the Guild is the Preston contest on Sun Feb 9th?
Preston is cheap - I spent a few years there during my student days!

theres also a little local one in derby on 020203 where the local bands get to play the area peice
hey Satchmo Shaz, is that the NEMBBA Contest ? a little one it didn't ought to be..nearly 50 member bands. Tell them to get their fingers out and support THEIR Association..Ican say that as the ex President, and not within reach these days. Brian

There is normally only about 3-4 bands in each section at NNEMBA now! :?
There is normally only about 3-4 bands in each section at NNEMBA now! :? But why are Bands so indifferent to their own Association contest ? It should be their first choice after the Area contest, which you have to attend if you want to retain your Section..I can't, and never could understand when I was involved with NEMBBA why so many member bands didn't attend..What do they want from their Assoc ? Why don't they send delegates to meetings, and discuss what it is they want, or is it just TOTAL APATHY..Brian
I know for certain that my band's going to the contest at Derby.
Anyone else going?

I wholeheartedly agree with Brian, we all should support our local association contests. Long Eaton always go now!, even when 15 of the band had flu!! we didnt play our best though. Last year we came second best result we had for a long time. My brother carl even got euphonium player of the day!! the rest of the band got a bad headache :)
PS the contest is held at Rolls Royce sports centre moor lane Derby

I should think I will be popping along for a listen. I agree with Brian as well especially since NNEMBA is a month before the area....a good chance to run the piece out!

There is also our local Durham League contest on the first sunday in February at Spennymoor. 4th Section is Eric balls Divertimento :(

See you in Derby then Heather - I should be there with Carlton Brass. ;o)
Ok Rutty..what section are you in?
Actually, I'll be lucky if I'm still in the Band!!! Missed the last 2 rehearsals due to firstly my own mistake and then feeling extremely ill!
Better make sure I'm there on Sunday.

Third. We keep coming second at NEMMBA, so we're hoping to improve this year! I look just like my avatar, except I'm not really as fat as that ;o)
Or a ninja
Ok, we're in 1st section.
Not sure how the contest is run as not been before but if we're there when you play I'll come and have a listen (and clap and cheer of course!!).
I'm sure I'll recognise you as the only bandmember wearing a balaclava and looking like a stick man!! Not sure what you've got in your hand though. Looks a bit dangerous to me!
Anyway, good luck at the contest.

I know what you look like even without the balaclava on!
Hope you've been practising hard for the NNEMBA contest!

You could always show up in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA for NABBA on April 11 & 12. If you come from Britain (and you're not with Grimethorpe, sorry I do have a budget) look me up and I'll buy you a beer.
Sounds very tempting!!!
What chance do you think I have of persuading the comittee it would be a good idea??????

17.01.2003, 15:50
I'm not sure which part sounded so tempting, the beer? hearing the North American Bands compete? or the enticement of Little Rock? Perhaps the whole bundle together.
Not sure how to convince your committee, perhaps you could hitch with Grimethorpe (they're playing our gala concert, that's why I excluded them from the offer, it wasn't to be mean.) or I understand there is a Norwegian band coming to compete, you could pop over there and ride with them.
The contest organizers tell us that Delta is offering 10% discounted airfares for the event, so see it's getting more feasible all of the time!
