I thought I'd start a new thread and I'm sure somebody will tell me we've had this one before..........anyway here goes.

How far do you travel from your term time place of abode to your regular band?

I travel 54 miles round trip to mine

I live about 7 miles from Hadleigh, but it is somewhat confusing as I am usually going to practice straight from work (in London).

With the wind ensemble we meet three times a year, the venues having been as far afield as Pentre, Plymouth and Nuneaton. A couple of the wind ensemble players travel down from Scotland each time, so they have quite a trek.

Approximately an 80 mile round trip for me and the missus. It takes us about 45 mins to an hour to get there (Littleborough from Leeds), but it takes significantly longer to get back home......something to do with the pub up the road from the bandroom perhaps!  :guiness

Was doing 50 miles/1 hour trip (horrible country roads and horse boxes!)each way over the summer, but now we've moved house its only 20mins. Bliss.

My first band was only 5 mins in the car. I miss those days!

The prize has to go to Alder Valley though - the band "room" is about 50 yds from the BBb bass player's front door!!!!!

Littleborough (Home) to Haslingden band- about 30 minutes twice a week. Ok on a Tuesday night, NOT great on a Sunday morning!

Littleborough (home) to Littleborough band- 2 minutes! I live round the corner from the bandroom!! Although I am moving shortly and will have to travel (wait for it.............................) 3 miles!!

It's a 5 minute drive there and back for the Peterborough Citadel band practices.

Just over 140 mile round trip for the Anglia Youth Band. But then we only rehearse about once a month so it's by no means unreasonable. And I have all that magnificent Norfolk scenery to look at! And if I'm lucky, I may even see a hill.

on a serious note, a couple of friends of mine, tony and gill davies, follow the grimethorpe everyewhere, and they told me (i don't know if it's true) that one of them travels from birmingham, and one from london to every rehearsal. and, i went to see the yorkshire b.s. band do a concert, and the man selling disks said one of the tuba players comes from wales.
it just shows you the commitment of some of these top bandspeople.

Thursday- Sian is off again. Friday- 32 miles again for no 1 son. Saturday 14 to music centre or every 2 weeks 150 miles back and forth to the county brass band. Add to this jobs etc. and you can see why nobody would buy a used car from us!
Keep on bandin`

I d a bout 30 mile round trip at present. Can take anything from 15-25 minutes depending on the the traffic lights at Hillsborough. Hit them at the right time and at the right speed and you can go through about 15 traffic lights all on green. get it wrong and you're stopping every 100 metres!!

I've been lucky and all of my bands have been relatively local. Staffordshire band was aprox 10 miles, Sovereign was 6 miles.

Current band is 6 miles, mind you, I'd travel a lot further to play under bottyburps baton :) (thats another free pint you owe me now after getting me out of retirement  )

However, in the past, I've played 1 night concerts where I've had to travel from the midlands to the south coast...ah those were the days before speed cameras....

Similar thing happened to me over Xmas. Having rushed home from work and zoomed along the motorway (at 70mph of course officer  ), I reached Littleborough (approx 40 miles away) to discover that practice had ben cancelled and they had decided to go carolling an hour ago without telling me! Grrr!
Although, the next day, there was mucho grovelling by the committee members and I was also given some petrol money. :D

WEEKDAYS
Leave home in Salford at 5pm, and walk to Salford Crescent Station (20mins). Catch 1726 to Buxton - Arrive Stockport at about 1800. Wait for Gareth to turn up (usually about 15 mins late!), and then go in car to Hull (1hr 45mins normally). Out and in. Rehearse 8-10pm. Arrive home about 11.45. 6hrs 45mins point to point.
SUNDAYS
Since they cancelled the Buxton train on a Sunday(!) I have to walk to Victoria Station from Salford (leave about 4pm). 20 mins to there, and get the Metro to Piccadilly. Arrive Piccadilly at about 4.50pm, then get train to Stockport, arriving at about 5.15pm. Wait for Gareth (late), and leave at 5.30 for Hull. Arrive in time for band at 7.15pm. Arrive home about 11pm. 7hrs from beginning to end.
Approx. 210 miles round trip, as and when! Thank god I don't have to drive!

I used to have about a 50 mile round trip twice a week including some pickups but now it's down to about 12 miles (same band, different house).

32 miles round trip (about 40 minutes each way but I allow an hour to make allowances for stray sheep, tractors, slow lorries etc). The next nearest band would require an overnight stay across the water.
And occasional 900 mile round trips to Croydon (and sometimes Fulham!).

What, on a boat or without? Or submerged underneath it? Do they supply water wings with that? Have you been getting strange ideas from that bloke in the January caption competition? I think we should be told.

Takes me about 10 minutes by car. Used to be a 5 minute walk away, which was lovely, but the band moved location, which was great for the band, but a bit inconvenient for me - I've got a bit of a thing about not using the car too much (no I'm not mean, I worry about the environment!)

I did try it the other week, but it's actually quicker to walk to Victoria than go to the Cresecent and wait for a train. Plus the fresh (?!) air does me good! :D

It takes me about 20 mins on the Tube to Regent Hall
And about 5 mins in the Car from home to Chelmsford

However!
There was a guy in the SA German Staff Band who used to fly from Stockholm to Berlin every week to attend practice!
He was either very dedicated or very sad!

Just joined Leyland, who rehearse in Billinge near Wigan - 52 miles each way from home in Hadfield.
Last Tuesday I managed the journey from band to The Bull in Old Glossop in 49 minutes, just in time for Maestro Cutt to make last orders !!
